Broken teeth suck !!

I broke one a few years back, a tooth that previously had a filling in it…

My Dentist did all he could to try and save it (Root Canal one day, with the plan to come back in for a Cap)… but unfortunately it was cracked below the gum line as well, and he told me there was nothing that could be done, other than pull it in the end.

This guy is a great Denist, I’ve been with him for years.

He refunded the money I already had put out for the Root Canal less a very small portion (think that was for the freezing, his time or something… sorry I’ve forgotten now) and then did the Pull for free as well.

So my second appointment cost $ 0, and the first one, about what I would have spent on having the tooth pulled right from the get go

More than fair, IMO

BUT STILL… nothing prepares you for the day you have your first tooth pulled / lost forever as an adult

Such a feeling of loss / failure.

Lucky are the people who can keep their own teeth their whole life !!

Yup. I broke a tooth many years ago on a frozen M&M. The dentist ended up sealing it with a filling, but eventually I needed a root canal and a crown.

I feel your pain though…I am 2 weeks out and have developed an abscess on my gum (I have already had a root canal for this to clear the infection, and apparently it didn’t do it) which is just freaking fantastic. It paralyzes my left side of my mouth, where it is located, and hurts like a mother.

@AirForceWife78:  +100. Find a dentist that will do the crown in the office. Thats where I had mine done. I had to get a root canal and it only took a little more than 2 hours for the root canal and for them to make the crown. Simple fix. It also wasnt more expensive than the dentists that send off the mold of your tooth to an outisde lab and take 2-3 weeks for a crown. That was 2 years ago and the tooth is doing great!

Broke one a couple months back and had a root canal. They’ll fill the tooth with a polymer in preperation for the crown, so if you want to delay the crown you can and just get it fixed & filled. You can fully function with a polymer tooth.

My sister chipped one a few years back!

She had a root canal and a cap! It was all fixed and good to go in just a couple of weeks!

@inky_1:  Can your dentist do a temporary crown, and then you can have a permanent one put in place after the wedding? The same thing happened to my mom a couple of years ago, like a week before Christmas. She had a temporary crown put in so she would be able to smile in all the photos, lol. Later on after New Years, she had a permanent one put in.

Tooth pain is seriously the worst pain ever. They should be able to give you a temporary crown if they can’t put the permanent one in before your wedding. I wouldn’t stress about it, I think as long as you can get in for even just one visit before the big day you should be good to go!

I’m starting to think that stress must trigger toothaches because all of us October brides seem to be having similar tooth issues! I had an abscessed tooth a few months back. My doctor treated it with antibiotics to clear up the infection so as to buy me some time until after the wedding when I’ll get health insurance so that I can get a root canal. Well what do ya know, just a few days ago I get a strange little pang in that tooth and now I’m worried that it’s going to flair up again just in time to majorly mess up our wedding plans (AKA unplanned trip to the dentist with no insurance = $$$$$). Yay for last-minute wedding stress!  :/

@inky_1:  Maybe you’ll be okay then, if you can’t see it! I just got braces so I know I will still have them on in 18 months or so when I get married. I’m already fretting over it lol.
