I feel the same way! I feel like people at 60 Minutes are just humoring him, waiting until he gives up and retires. I'm sure at first his grumpy-old-man-schtick was funny or amusing, but aren't we over it by now? He probably has more money than both of us put together, all for complaining once a week.
For him being 90 years old I think if he wants to rant and rave for about two minutes on the show 60 minutes by all means. The guy deserves it, also kind of makes me feel like I see how my grandma and grandpa might think through Andy, they would be close to 90 if they were still here. I hope when i am 90 I can be such a smart mouth gal and make sure everyone knows how I feel, just like Mr. Rooney.
I think he's hilarious. I wish I could be a hilarious old man when I get to be 90...
I def have a soft spot in my heart for him. My father watched 60 Minutes religiously every Sunday and he always thought Andy Rooney was a riot! So now....whenever I see him I always think of my father howling laughing while watching him. A nice memory for me! ;)
Also...I agree with dereksbride2b!! I hope if I make it to 90 someone let's me rant for two minutes once a week! They will if they know what's good for them! lol!!!
Oh I find his crazy rants entertaining, but I agree with ES- I just feel like I'm over it now.
lol he can continue to rant... maybe he should join a board (like me! haha), but stop interupting my summer reality tv & messing up my DVR for a rant on fruit or nuts. lol jk! He used to be known for his political rants & he's been reduced to prunes.
I find his rants to be entertaining. (I hate this saying but) At his age, he can rant about whatever he wants. I wonder what he would have to say about Weddingbee...
My grandpa turns 90 in a week. He has EARNED a right to give his opinion on a variety of subjects and yes, he's a curmudgeon just as Mr. Rooney is sometimes! :)
My grandpa is also funny, and sees the world thru a set of eyes and filtered quite differently than we see things today. He lived thru the great depression and a world war. He saw the sexual revolution happen, hated it, and pretty much hated the entire 60's. He saw the Golden Hollywood era, watched man walk on the moon, still can't figure out what a computer is and refuses to use the dvd player I bought him or cd's in his car (a brand new honda accord!). He's an am/pm kinda radio guy!
He also knows more about baseball than anybody (was in a world championship winning game and briefly played professionally). He's one of a kind.
And I bet if he and Andy got together they'd swap some wild stories!
Bring it on grandpa! I love ya! and andy? You've earned it too!
I hope no one took my rant as an insult... I did not intend for my post to come across as mean in any way!
When he leaves CBS, he'll be missed-- 60 minutes will not be the same without him. But it's time to let him go. I just think at 90, you deserve to be in a villa on the Amalfi Coast or in a cottage watching birds. But thats just me.

omg. i totally agree. he is a raving lunatic. i get the fact that he's old and should be given some leeway, but honestly, he's just plain rude. the other day he said something like "this man sent me a copy of his book and asked if id like to go to lunch with him. well i dont like books and i dont like lunch with strangers, so no thank you very much" didn't his mother ever tell him, "if you cant say anything nice, shut it old man!"?
thanks for the post. my FH always makes us watch 60 minutes (no, i am not marrying a retiree), and i always hate andy rooneys tirades! :)
no i think is fantastic. i agree with him more often than not lol.
His books are fantastic too .. i laugh so hard

I usually catch the end of his rants on 60 minutes because I watch Big Brother. Everything he talks about just makes me sit there completely bewildered... like really? REALLY? This is what he chooses to inform America about this week?! UGH!
