I found a dress for my bridesmaids online from Ann Taylor — it’s pretty much perfect, albeit a tad pricy. My only concern, especially since it is an online style and can’t be tried on first, is that the sizing charts differ. According to the General Sizing chart, a size 18 bust is 45.5″ but a Wedding Party Sizing chart has the bust of a sizae 18 as being only 43.5″. Yet the Wedding Size page says that if you know your regular Ann Taylor size, you can order the same size in confidence and that they are cut “generously” so you want to size down if you are between sizes or prefer a slimmer fit. So do you think someone who is a size 18 at David’s Bridal, whose size 18 is a bust of 46″ would be able to get away with the size 18 from Ann Taylor?
And to make this post more worthwhile, here’s the dress:

I don’t know…I wear a 00 – 2 at Ann Taylor and my wedding gown from David’s Bridal is a 6. However, it is much easier to have a dress taken in than out.

I am a 16W at DB but an Ann Taylor’s 14/16 (depending on the style of the bust). I think the size 18 at Ann Taylor should fit your friend. BM dresses tend to have a little wiggle room in case they need to be let out, so you may want to double check with Ann Taylor to see if they do the same, just in case the bust is too tight.

Honestly, if she can’t go into an Ann Taylor to find her size, I’d call their customer service number and talk to someone there. I’d hate to buy a dress that doesn’t fit. Either she buys one size up or she buys two dresses and returns the smaller one.

I wore a size 6 in DB bridesmaid dresses, but a size 4 at Ann Taylor, for what that’s worth.

ann taylor is always big on me. i would call customer service or ask your bm to go to a store that carries the wedding line.

Thanks for the info! Your comments reassured me enough that she very likely will fit into an 18 or maybe even a 16, and I talked to two of my other bridesmaids, one of whom is already married, and she convinced me to stop stressing about it and just tell them all to buy it. I’ve decided that my BMs can figure out their own sizes.
And I found a coupon code and there is free shipping right now, so it will come out to $150.50!
Choosing BM dresses has been possibly worse than buying my own because I have a lot of “requests” that I was trying to consider in picking a style that is in budget (ok so I could have done better here; I tried), fits the look I was going for, is an acceptable material (not cotton sateen from David’s because it’ll show sweat or something she said), flatters some VERY different body shapes, and would cover enough chest.
Waiting to hear back from them and confirm all the orders, but I really, really, really hope I can cross this off the list!

I was hoping to possibly go through Ann Taylor if need be, even for my Engagement Photo Outfit! But wasnt sure if I could fit in their sizes! I am a 16! Going to try some on when I have an opportunity!
