You will probably get some questions like, "What's the date?"
Other than announcements in newspapers, I don't recall every hearing about an engagement announcement (marriage announcements, yes, but those are after the fact). Can you just save money and send out an e-mail announcement?
I've never thought of an e-announcement, that's a great idea. My FMIL was actually the one who suggested sending our family the annoucement because they live too far and will not be seeing the one in the newspaper.
If there is a newspaper announcement, why not just send a link to it (if it's online) or make some copies of it to send to people?

I will be having a super small wedding - 50 max. We have alot of family on the east coast, as well as out of the country that, although will not be invited to the wedding, we want to send them a picture engagement announcement. Unlike the STD's we are sending out, this announcement will not have a date on it. Do you think people will get confused and assume its an actual STD and expect an invitation to follow?
Did anyone else do engagement annoucements to family you rarely see?
