6 weeks ago I dropped my ring off at the private jeweler where we got it to get it reset in platinum (same setting, different metal). At the time I didn’t ask for a time estimate. I didn’t think it would take very long, because it’s not a custom setting, the jewelers just needed to order it in platinum from the manufacturers. A couple weeks ago I called them to get an idea of when they would have it ready, and they said it would be the end of the next week. I have called several times since then because I never heard back, and each time I have called the new estimate for pickup is a week later that what they last said. At this point I am getting very frustrated; SO and myself are going on vacation in 2 weeks and I know he was planning on proposing then (don’t know exactly when, but definitely sometime during the trip). Is it worth it to call the jeweler again and tell them we need it in the next two weeks? I just think it’s ridiculous that every time I call, the estimate gets longer. Has anyone else had a similar experience? What do you think I should do?

I would go to the store and be as nice as posable but say that you need it before you leave town and were told it would be ready last week, and ask if there has been a problem (they ordered the setting but the wrong one came in for example). If they try to blow you off just tell them you want it back and will take it somewhere else. If you say you need it in two weeks they may feel they can drag it out, tell them your leaving in a week.
But defenty go in person to figure it all out, and try to talk right with the jeweler

@NEAM2014: I would love to do this, unfortunately I am at college about 4 hours away from the jeweler (they are in my hometown). The next time I will be back there is in 2 weeks, a couple days before we leave for vacation :/

I feel your pain…..I went through a similiar experience but with a chain store…not a private one. My story is long….so I will keep it as short and sweet as possible. DH bought me a beautiful right hand ring….had to send it out for sizing, I was told it would take 3 weeks to size it…but they couldn’t give me a date it would be done?? 2 1/2 weeks later I heard NOTHING…I called, they couldn’t tell me when it would be done…etc, etc. Finally get it back…something else goes wrong with it, I bring it to them..they can’t tell me once again how long it will be gone. I leave it with them…hear nothing for almost 2 weeks, call them, no one knows what’s going on with it…someone is always telling me it’s going to be another week, etc etc….blah, blah, you get the idea.
If I was you this is what I would do….call them and tell them you need the ring done and completed by a certain date (tell them when) if they can’t have it done for you by then you are just picking up the ring as is and you will take it some place else….period. In my opinion it’s taking why to long to do what you wanted done with it. Sorry you have to deal with that….good luck…hope you get it back just how you want it!

Aw sorry! I agree with @megan331979: call them and give THEM a date you need it by. I would try and make it a week before you leave, I always worry things will happen so I do stuff asap to give leway time (which you did and look how long they are taking!) If your getting in town say March 8th and leaving for the trip the 15th, tell them you need it NO later then the 8th.
Can you e-mail and get something in writing? Or maybe have a parent go in? (if they know about you’ll be geting engaged soon, I just think with all this going on it is best to have things worked out in person and I understand your far away)
