…oh yeah, things got amazingly stupid last night.
Set the scene, we’re setting up Christmas in our house, Mr. 99 has to have two trains running around the base of the Christmas tree which sits in the middle of a HUGE mountain model scene he’s built just for this purpose…the problem, kids love trains…honestly, I’ve never met a kid that came into our house and DIDN’T sit in front of that behemouth thing and just watch them go around and around while Mr. 99 showed them how to run them…but accidents happen, and it seems like every year, something gets broken….this year is no exception and after three solid days of fiddling, $200 of new train equipment and an hour in the hobby store, he finally got them running….while he was doing that, I was downstairs wrapping gifts, which I love to do and I do quite well…
We finally get all the ornaments on the tree, the rest of the decorations out and I start to bring the gifts up for him to put under the tree….what does he do?
CRAM THEM BEHIND THE WHOLE THING
I don’t know why it bothered me so much, he’s done that for years, and I’ve just let it go…but last night it just pissed me off….of course, we’ve been married so long he can smell it, but he’s in no mood to be diplomatic either so he just looks at me and says
I don’t really remember much after that, but I do recall him complaining that the gifts were simply too big this year, which was part of the problem AND entirely my fault, then he asked me what the big deal was commented that he didn’t understand why I was so grumpy….at which point I advised him:
“Your Christmas shit has squashed my holiday spirit”
and went to bed.
When I got up this morning, the smaller gifts were actully under the tree, and in places where the trains wouldn’t get derailed, the larger, “problematic” gifts, were nicely set against the fireplace and there was a note on the mirror,
“I fixed it, I’m sorry, I’m an asshole…went to get the stuff for the x-mas party…sorry for squishing you.”
The Shitty Elf
…I think we can get on with the holiday now.
