I’m so tired of writting these performance reviews. Do you any of you have to write them? How do you feel about them?
Do you think they are actually effective? I don’t really see them as very effective. If I or anyone was not doing their job, the company is not going to wait until the annual review to tell you they are NOT happy. LOL

Ugh I just had mine in mid-December. Of course you have to self-evaluate and I hate that part! I dont think they really do very much!

Chalk me up to hating them. Of course you aren’t going to say anything negative about yourself, and I don’t think my boss ever takes into consideration what I say anyway, so what’s the point? I know it’s a good opportunity to sell yourself, but I find it to be a waste of time.

Ah, I remember doing those self evals and also having to evaluate all of my employees. I do not miss that, but I would welcome the opportunity to find the right job in my new area this year.

Yeah – I hate them too. I don’t really think they provide any benefit to anyone.

I hate them! total waste of time. why can’t we have monthly or quarterly one-on-ones with our manager instead? that’s when the real opinions / ideas flow.
@2PeasinaPod: I agree. your manager should fill out the survey. it is totally unhelpful for me to fill out my own. if I don’t agree with what my manager says about me, then I should get a rebuttal. but filling out my own survey in advance? stupid.

Hate them. Get the same shitty “cost of living” raise regardless of what I put so I was thinking of copying and pasting ALL of my answers from last year’s review. Nothing has really changed since then anyways!

oh, and I hate how the answers are like “strongly agree”, “agree”, “disagree” etc, but it seems like there is never the right in-between answer.

Prior to opening up my own business I was a manager for lots of corporations. I actually found self evaluations to be very helpful. It was interesting to see how “good” employees evaluated themselves, most of the time being harder on themselves than I would be. Employees who were less than great always gave themselves the higher marks.
To be honest though, almost all raises and such, were due to corporate before seeing the self reviews, which I always thought was super silly.

I’m so happy I’m not the only one!
And to add, my manager and I have touchbases EVERY single week! so this formal review is just repetitive and unproductive. Everyone pretty in this company has weekly touchbases with their managers. And bi-monthly touchbases with the divisional directors! hahahaha!
We need way too often…

Hate, with the fire of a thousand suns.

HATE them. Worst part is filling out your goals and how you will “measure your success.” *shakes head*
