…and I am sure there will be quite a few more to come…
So I’m trying to figure out what to do for the BLACK cake for my Red White and Black cupcakes…
I just came across this delicious sounding recipe from Hershey’s…Black Magic Cake…it’s basically Chocolate and Coffee…
What I would like to know are suggestions for fillings/frostings that would go well with this? I would LIKE to figure a way to have the frosting and filling be either red or white… I thought about a whipped cream filling and frosting…but wasn’t sure if that was to generic, or if something simple like that would be good with a powerful cake.

@Ms. Drgnfly: The problem with whipped cream frosting is that it really can’t sit out for long. Whipped cream needs to be refrigerated.
A mascarpone or cream cheese frosting would work for me.

@julies1949: ooooohhhh…marscapone…didn’t even think about that! YUMMM!
I wasn’t referring to frosting made from actual whipped cream. Betty Crocker has a Whipped Cream Frosting that seems to stand up as well as any other. 🙂 But um yeah…marscapone…lol

You could consider doing a flavored frosting/filling like hazelnut- like a hazelnut mocha? Or raspberry mocha?
Personally, I like plain vanilla frosting (good buttercream, not frosting made with shortening or those awful store bought frostings that are waay too sweet) with rich cake. And my absolute favorite frosting ever is the Betty Crocker 7-minute frosting- it’s a tiny bit marshmallowy in texture, very light but so so good. It can be flavored as well- we did it with almond extract for my graduation cake and the cake was completely wiped out by the time I had time to get some!
