So I didn’t respond in the Christmas Challenge thread, but I had made a pact to myself that I was going to join in the challenge after recent events unfolded. Basically my SO and I were going to get my ring while on vacation in Playa del Carmen a few weeks ago but decided to wait to get it back stateside. Upon our return, we had talked about ordering my ring once he got his next paycheck, which was about a week and a half after we got home. Payday came, I mentioned it to him, and he seemed noncommittal and mentioned that I was taking the surprise out of everything.
Needless to say, this put me into what I’ll now refer to as the Waiting Downward Spiral of Death. I was super upset about it, almost worried that maybe he’d changed his mind or something. After seeing the Christmas challenge thread, I knew my way forward was clear.
Apparently, when you completely drop a topic that you’ve been mildly obsessing over, it somehow finds its way back to the forefront. Tonight we were driving to the grocery store and he brought up my Christmas gift, saying he wasnt sure what to get me. “What do you want?” he asks. I hesitated. “You’re ring,” he states. “I know.” I looked at him. “Well, yeah…” I replied. (There goes my solid attempt at the challenge…) “Well, we can get it when I get paid in a few days.” he says. Like I haven’t heard that before. “Seriously? You really mean it this time? Because that’s really all I want.” He smiles the most genuine, cutest smile I’ve ever seen. “Yeah, we can order it on Thursday.” I then made a comment about how he wouldn’t let me just have it when it gets delivered, that he’d take it hostage until his little heart desired to actually propose, aka making me wait for it because he loves to drive me crazy. He smiles again, devilishly this time, and nods his head.
Im trying my hardest not to get excited again after what happened last month, but he seemed genuine that he wanted to get it now. Not to mention we just spent the weekend apart, which we don’t do often, and he’s been extra lovey since he’s been home. The light at the end of the tunnel is becoming visible I think…
Fingers crossed! 🙂
