    Hi Bees!

Like Ms. Cooper, we are exploring Fiji as a honeymoon destination and trying to figure out if it's affordable. We know airline tickets are going to be about $2K, and trying to figure out what we can do with accommodations to keep it affordable.

I'm not necessarily interested in super high-end all-inclusives or resorts, just a nice, comfortable bungalow on the beach somewhere would be nice. Not a youth hostel, but not a 5-star. I've seen some other Bees' suggestions around and they seem so all run about $500/night! I'm happy to plan this myself instead of booking a package (I've done a lot of worldly travel so am fine doing that), so am trying to get a sense for non-package prices in Fiji. I know there are a lot of Aussie/Kiwi bees on the board - you guys have any input about how we can get away with Fiji for a bit cheaper and still have a nice honeymoon?

    Thanks guys!

    Hey Miss Boston,

We went to Fiji this year and loved it!  It was cheaper for us to use a travel agent as she could buy cheaper nightly rates, so you could think about doing that.   One word of warning is that the cheapest places to stay in Fiji are the big resorts, like Hilton, but they are on Denarau Island.  Denarau Island is artificial, so if you want a beautiful beach, unfortunately you won't find it there - the sand is imported from somewhere else and the beach is converted swampland.

The best beaches are on the small islands.  We stayed at Tokoriki which was stunning and adults only.  It had a gorgeous lagoon to snorkel in. We passed lots of other islands on the boat and some of the cheaper ones, like Castaway and Beachcomber, are 'party islands' with lots of noisy kids and teenagers.  If you want a quiet romantic break you probably won't get it there, but it depends what you're looking for - the beaches there are still nice.

    Good luck with your search!

I just got back from our honeymoon in Fiji.  We went to Turtle Island and it was the most amazing place I have ever been.

Not far from Turtle is a resort called Blue Lagoon Resort that looked very nice too.  Little bure's on the beach and gorgeous coastline.  Good luck!

PS we also stayed one night at the Sofitel on Denarau Island in transit and I was vey dissapointed.  Fly into Nadi but then don't spend all your time there.

When we were looking into Fiji, I called Costco. They gave me a decent (although high price for Tahiti) and said their Fiji prices should be out soon. You might want to check them out as a price comparison.

I wanted to go to Fiji SO BADLY but the cost and flight time is what scared us off. From where we'd be leaving, it would be a 15 hours on board. As much as I love my fiance, i'm pretty sure 15 hours on a flight is not the way I'd like to spend our first moments o marriage! haha. But it looks like a STUNNING vacation place and once we are able to get more time off work and have more money, it's number one on my list. I would check out www.unforgettablehoneymoons.com for some good prices. I'm having them help me find a honeymoon place that works in our budget and I know that they have good prices for Fiji and Tahiti.

Thanks! Yeah the flight time is long but we love to travel and figure this is a great excuse to go somewhere remote like that. I just depends if we can find somewhere reasonable to stay. Thanks everyone!

We just went to Fiji for a wedding, and stayed at the Westin on Denarau Island. It was OK - very much a resort, and like others have mentioned, it is on converted swamp land. That said, it was beautiful for the wedding and we all relaxed by the pool all day which was nice.

Afterwards we went to Castaway Island on the recommendation of our travel agent, and I do not recommend it at all! It is not a party island, but a family island and everything is geared around catering for the kids. The kids were well behaved, but we were forced to be in bed by 9.30 each night because the resort was dead by then! The bar had closed and there was nothing going on.  It was beautiful, but not for us.

I didn't find the prices too bad, but then again, we are in Australia and getting there is cheaper.

I would definately find an adults only resort though for your honeymoon. Also check out what they charge for food... a lot of resorts charge a daily food price, so you can eat what you want during the day for a set price of about $120 Fiji. It turned out to be good value because they were charging $60 for breakfast!

It is a beautiful place and the people there are lovely - just do your research to find the best island for what you want.

I was just looking at travelocity, and Fiji was more expensive. BUT you could go to Tahiti for just a little bit more/same price as going to Hawaii. However, I heard they really rip you off for the food. I'm looking into going to Tahiti.

We're going to Fiji in January (their low season). I found a nice hotel on the North side of the main island, the resort is called Wananavu. It is very affordable compared to the other higher end resorts. I found them via trip advisor, we are able to get a honeymoon bure with a private plunge pool and all meals included for a very reasonable price. I suggest you look on trip advisor and look for other "non-honeymoon" resorts in Fiji. That's how I found that gem of a hotel. I can't wait!!

@TheEncoreBride: Awesome, thanks - we really don't need the super high-end all inclusive experience.. but we don't want to stay at a youth hostel either. Hopefully we can find something in between. I'll check it out, thanks!

@MissBoston: Contact them because the prices on the site are not the latest, not to mention that I'm not sure if they are FIJI or US $. Even after the quoted me the prices they were reasonable, they also arranged for our pickup from the airport.

@TheEncoreBride: Awesome - yeah I converted them from Fiji$ to American$ and it still came out super cheap. I'll definitely contact them - looks great and woudl be worth the trip out there if we can find something reasonably priced to make up for the flight. :)

My husband and I stayed at Tokoriki also and LOVED it!  I would definitely recommend it as it is very quiet, natural feeling, the staff is very friendly, and the food was amazing!

We did use a travel agency as we found it was cheaper doing it that way.  We used Journey Pacific I believe for our package.

Also, we traveled and stayed there from the end of April 2010 to the beginning of May 2010.  The weather was great and even though we were at the same resort for quite awhile the variety of food was great.

     Hope this helps!
