So my mom was just going through her jewelry box and she gave me this stone. Apparently it was given to her by either her mother or grandmother, but it was just a loose stone hanging around at the bottom of the box. It’s very pretty, but I nave no idea what it could be made out of. I don’t have time to get it appraised right away, but it’s kind of exciting to think about what it might be, you know? It doesn’t matter if it’s CZ or glass or whatever, but I eventually want to know!
I actually remember it always being there because when I was little I loved to go through my mother’s jewelry box. It used to be in a little blue package with clear plastic on one side and silver writing on the blue side. We have no idea where the case went, so that’s no help. Idk, does any of that sound familiar? What do you thik?
Here’s a picture of the stone. This tablet camera doesn’t really do it justice, it’s much more reflective irl.

Ohhhh I love these threads. When are you taking it to a jewler?

@figgnewton: I love these threads too, and I don’t know, maybe tomorrow or Saturday.

@JaneyJane: …if I had to guess….and I’m pretty good at it…I would say you’ve got a topaz on your hands there…they have a liquid brilliance to them that diamonds and sapphires do not…also, the casual packaging you describe indicates it is a stone of lesser monetary value…my Mom put a topaz in her mothers e-ring…its lovely!

Oh goodness, can’t wait to see what it is for sure. I love mystery stones! lol

Yeah it does look like a topaz. It has an oily look to it like they do. It’s a wet oily sheen sort of. I’m liking at a raw clear cut topaz now for comparison. Do share with us what you find out.
also that has a burst of rainbow that a white sapphire does not have.

So I have a question: when they run the test does it give a very clear result of what type of stone it is. I mean, I have an inkling it will be CZ because they are so common and all, but it could be so many other types as well, so how specific is it?
