I am looking for some suggestions on an alternative name or presentation for the “mother/son” dance.
A little back story: FI’s mother and father had a volatile relationship for the past ~13 years. They have been divorced for the better part of those 13 years, and it was just a yucky situation. Well, his mother passed away a year and a half ago under circumstances that left his mother’s family VERY bitter towards his father.
Yesterday his paternal aunt told FI that she wanted to dance “in place” of his mother. FI is close to the aunts on both his paternal and maternal sides. So he was just fine with it – so am I. My concern now is that his mother’s side is going to be really upset that his father’s sister will be standing in for the mother instead of one of the mother’s actual sisters… FI is also concerned about the perception and we really don’t want to make any sour grapes. 🙁
So my question: Is there another way I can have the DJ present the mother/son dance so it doesn’t sound like his paternal aunt is trying to “take the place” of his mother? Any suggestions are appreciated. Thanks!
