I just wanted to add that my officiant will be my cousin who is getting authorized by the state to preside over the wedding. It's not a minister or JofP or anything.
If you are talking about a non-religious officiant, the only other term I have heard/seen is celebrant, which is what they are called in the UK/Australia/NZ, etc.
Celebrant is a term often used for the person who leads the ceremony here in the states, too.
Ember78- I am in the UK and haven't heard the term celebrant. We are having a civil ceremony, and it is being performed by a registrar.

Hi,
I'm looking for another term for my officiant. I know I've seen people use a different term/word, I just can't find it when I search the boards. I'm writing a thank you poem in the style of Edward Gorey and I want to use something that sounds a little nicer than 'officiant'.
Thanks!
