FI and I are starting to draw up a budget, and we're completely at a loss for how much to budget for our music. We are thinking we would like to hire a string quartet for the ceremony and a DJ for the reception, but I can't find any prices online! All of the websites I've looked at for both DJs and string ensembles say something like, "We customize our packages for every client, please contact us for a pricing consultation," which I find kind of frustrating. I'm not ready to consult anyone or book anyone yet, I just want an estimate that I can put in my spreadsheet.
So I figured I'd come here for an informal survey. What kind of music did you use at your ceremony and reception, and (if you don't mind sharing) how much did it cost?
Where in Colorado are you getting married? I feel your pain. I went through the exact same things when budgeting for our wedding.
Since Mr. Cookie and I are getting married in Summit County, I hired a DJ from Alster Entertainment. For five hours of time the cost is $750. I wanted a string quartet for the ceremony. I put a bid on Gigmasters, but all the quartets were over $1,000. I bumped it down to a string trio through Levitt Music Service for two hours for $650. I hope this helps to budget.
If you have any other questions, feel free to PM me!
I am getting married in Estes Park Colorado and I have hired JR Productions as my DJ. His price is $500 (by far the cheapest that I found) and I asked for references and everyone said he was great. His website is www.JR-Pro.com and a phone number is 970-581-6298. My wedding isn't until August 2nd, but I have spoken with him a couple of times on the telephone as well as met with him around Christmas time (since we live in Tennessee, it hasn't been the easiest meeting with our vendors beforehand). His price includes soft "elevator" music during dinner then 5 hours of "reception-dance" music.
I hope this helps! Let me know if you have any questions.
Thank you both so much! This really helped me get a better idea of the price range for music.
Miss Cookie, I'm getting married in the Denver area -- we're not sure about the venue yet, but FI and I are excited about a couple of locations and we're planning to visit them at the end of July. We're eyeing a couple of places in Golden (my hometown) and Evergreen that have great mountain views! I love reading your posts about your Colorado wedding, the location you guys chose looks amazing.
