I am sorry.  We also have to have this liability insurance, but at least we knew up front.  Check around, though – most wedding insurance sites will cover it for $175-$200, but if you have homeowners’ insurance you can get a rider for a lot less than that (ours is costing $100).  If you don’t own a house, or if you live in a different state, see if you can get someone who owns a house in-state (your parents???) to add a rider for you.

Most of the time the liability insurance is included in the rental fee.  Otherwise, there are lots of “wedding insurance” companies that can offer you liability insurance for a reasonable price.

Yeah, it’s not a huge expense – we needed double that and it only cost $250. I expect yours will be around $150. A drop in the bucket! ANd congrats on getting such a steal for a venue – that’s a great price!

@meno bride – I am sorry if the responses don’t seem empathetic.  I am truly sorry – hidden, surprise expenses suck (be it $5 or $500).  Not to seem pedantic, but this should serve as a reminder to everyone to ask every vendor what “other” costs you may accrue.  I have asked every vendor I have interviewed that question, and have been really surprised and annoyed at the answers… there are hidden expenses everywhere in the wedding world!
