hi date twin 🙂

is the cocktail reception and the actual reception in the exact same space?

Is it possible to create a space for the cocktail part to be in?

If you can – you can make the entrance to the actual reception space the receiving line…..

If not – I agree with your FI – it’s a bit difficult to expect everyone to funnel out and then back into the same space.

oh gosh – no WAY are you going to get people to go outside and come back in.  The only thing you could maybe do – is just start a receiving line INSIDE the room and whomever wants to greet you can do so.  Do you think FI is ok with that?   I’m assuming that people will also be finding their table and sitting down – so some people may miss it entirely.  You are probably better off skipping it and just doing a grand entrance.

Have you considered doing a receiving line immediately after the ceremony?

I agree with you that a receiving line isn’t going to work if you aren’t actually there to receive people. I also think your wedding is just too big for a receiving line…I would make it more of a point to get around to as many people as possible during the cocktail hour.
