just curious how many ladies on here are planning a 2011 wedding? what made you decide to have a long engagement?
we're waiting until FI goes through the whole process of getting his CA (or CPA in USA), which takes about a year... and i always wanted a spring wedding so it works out perfectly :)
Me! Long engagement for a variety of reasons... I'll finish my masters next August, we want a spring/summer wedding, and I don't need to be stressing out and trying to write my thesis at the same time... So we're thinking May/June of 2011, and it is still unfortunately unclear what country it will be in! I am proud of you for having a date set already :)
congrats! i think it's a great idea to wait until you have lots of time to devote to planning, i'm hoping that i can avoid the super stress by starting things early and working slowly!
and the date was easy because all of my family will be coming in from out of town, and i wanted a may wedding, so we chose the long weekend! :) you'd be even more proud to hear we've already booked a venue and a photographer! haha
We're 2011 as well. We only graduated last year and we hope to buy a house before we marry so we need to save a lot of money and 2011 seemed like a good idea at the time (I am so impatient though).
We've been doing one thing every month or two to keep us busy and to spread out the cost of deposits etc. So far we have a venue, celebrant, photographer, and we bought our rings last month. I think that's us until after Christmas then we'll get back into it!
We're planning a May 2011 wedding. We want a spring wedding on the beach and there's no way I'd be able to plan it for spring 2010. We also want to pay cash for everything so it's easier to budget with a longer engagement. My FI just started back for his 2nd Masters and will be finishing in 2011 (also working towards his CPA) so he wants to focus on that during 2010.
I am also May 21, 2011! We are also planning to purchase a home before we are married so we wanted to have plenty of time to settle in and save some money beforehand! OttowaBride.... Why would May 21, 2011 be a long weekend? Isn't Memoral day the following weekend???
@kitkat - it's a canadian holiday! victoria day, to celebrate queen victoria's birthday i believe :)
yay! more 2011 brides! we are planning an October (tentative) 2011 wedding. We are waiting for my FI to finish school and to save $ so we can pay cash for (almost) everything. I like having tons of time to research and get inspiration.
So far, the only thing i hope to finalize by January is the venue/church and date. We have our venue meetings this weekend so I'm super excited and its starting to feel "real". (Sometimes its hard because its sooo far out. ;) )
Lets keep each other posted with our plans as we'll have to wait awhile yet for our "month twins" board.
@krissybee - i agree, sometimes i kind of... "forget" that we are getting married because it's so far away and there's not much we can plan yet!
Thats funny, cause the long weekend for us is the next week (memorial day!) and thats what we were thinking too! @kitkat i was equally confused for a second :)
I would love to have the major details ironed out by the end of this year, since everyone hikes their prices up in January! I think we're likely going to have the wedding here (as in DC area), but we need to discuss with FI's relatives in Malaysia, except his grandfather is not doing well these days and it is not a nice time to bring it up. I have been to a few venues and was just AMAZED at how expensive wedding food is in my area!
i definitely suggest getting an early start - we booked both our venue and our photographer at 2009 prices!!

No real reasoon for our long engagement we just were not in any rush. 1/1/2011
We're getting married in January 2011! We decided to have a long engagement partially because I will graduate college in December 2010, and partially because I wanted to have a long time to plan things without getting stressed out. I wanted the whole planning process to be fun for me - and this way I have way more time for all of my DIY projects.
@amanda.lynn - i'm excited to have so much time to plan and get creative too!! i'm hoping there will be much less stress this way :)
We are getting married in April of 2011...we are looking for the all important e-ring right now!! We are waiting till then to have our finances straight and have plenty of time for planning! We are both really laid back and would like to do things really slow! We also want a spring wedding here in Charleston and april 2010 is way too soon!

Oh, and OttawaBride, we are getting married in Ottawa too! We have sooooo much to talk about!
@Catherine - awesome! have you looked at venues yet?? we've already booked! we've also booked our photographer!
We haven't booked anything... it still feels too soon. I really like the idea of either Lago or the Billings Estate Museum... How about you?
And what photog did you choose? We live in Toronto, but I think we will look at venues and hopefully book something when we come home for Christmas.

@OttawaBride: The Courtyard is soooo nice! That is definitely on the list of options too... I really like restaurant receptions.
That photographer looks good too! I really like Derrick Rice (www.derrickrice.com) but FI isn't totally convinced, so I think we will keep looking.
This is so exciting! There are so few Canadian brides on here, and eve less from Ottawa.
2011 for me too! @Catherine - that's the date we're looking at as well!! We originally wanted May/June, until I realized EVERYONE wants May/June, and I love the idea of a cute date that's easy to remember.
We're waiting because of money. Like others have said, we want to pay cash for most everything. Plus I'm done my Master's degree in December 2010 and I definitely did not want to be going to school and planning a wedding at the same time!
@catherine - i don't know what your photography budget is, i contacted derrick rice and deemed him too expensive! his photos are so awesome... i wish we could have gone with him, but i think kevin will be good too :)
@lcneiny: I think it's such a cute date too! It's still tentative because we haven't booked anything, but that's what we are aiming for! We were originally thinking May too, but my fiance will be graduating law school April 2011, and he has to write the bar exam in June, so May would have been way to have the wedding with all that studying. This way, he will be in the month off between the bar and articling, so now we can have a nice 2 or 3 week honeymoon! Yay!
@OttawaBride: I think he will definitely be too expensive, but at this point I am trying to keep the dream alive!! We aren't big budget at all, and even though photography is pretty high on our list, I think he will be out of our range. Le sigh...
@catherine - i know, it hurt me when i got his response to my inquiry about price... i wanted to cry haha. the courtyard is pretty awesome!! i love the atmosphere and it's the perfect size for us :) the coordinator there is super nice too. do you know where you'll have your ceremony?
@OttawaBride: We're not totally sure... We both grew up going to Blessed Sacrament in the Glebe, but if we have the reception at an outdoor venue, I would love to have an outdoor ceremony too! Honestly, it all depends on the venue of the reception... is that weird? Haha...
@catherine - the billings estate museum would be an excellent place for an outdoor ceremony AND reception!!
@OttawaBride: I know! I haven't actually been there in person yet, but from what I've heard it is super nice and has a permanent tent set up too. So many decisions!
So this is a little random but did anyone have wedding dreams yet? I totally had one last night that the wedding was TODAY and I couldn't remember the venue, didn't remember getting a dress, and my FI wouldn't even talk to me via cell phone since "it was bad luck" and I couldn't remember what time it started so I didn't know when I had to begin getting ready, and I didn't have any idea of how I wanted my hair.... I was so terrified! Puts the fire under my butt to get something booked :)
I'm also planning on a 2011 wedding! We're leaning towards August or September because I graduate from college in June, so hopefully that will give me enough time to find a job :)
@mechiebaby - yes! i had one where i forgot to do everything. didn't write the ceremony, or get flowers, or cake. oh, and FI forgot to invite his parents (WTF?) lol.

We're planning for January 2011...I wanted to wait until I'm done with school in December 2010. :) Haven't picked a date yet, but I'm considering Jan 1st (its a Saturday)!! How cool would it be to have a New Years Eve rehearsal dinner??
We just got our venue and our photographer this weekend - so exciting! And turns out our photographer already had someone else inquiring about our date - turns out booking early was a good idea!!

so far we have our venue, photographer, and my dress!! i think we've also found a ceremony location too, i just went to this super cute church on sunday in our new neighborhood and loved it!
ahhh, I've found my ideal board!! I just posted this on the main board but I'm sooo glad I'm not the only 2011 bride with pretty much the whole "vision" laid out! :-D
We found a great to work with venue, and will have the date set in stone in a month or so. YAY! In the meantime, I'd been doing a lot of planning and thinking and considering and mind-changing about colors, styles, etc. But I can honestly say that in my head, we've got about 75% of the rest of the wedding planned! I tried on a dress that I've been stalking for over a year now (and fell in love!). I also have a color palette and style in mind, and know what I'd like our paper products like programs, menu cards, invites, to look like. I've already contacted a DJ that we love and know that we're going to be doing all flowers in silk (and DIY). No, it's not all DONE (I'm not sitting in an apartment filled with centerpieces and invitations for a wedding that's 2 years away, yo!) But you know what I mean. Essentially, we could throw this party THIS August. But we will be about $6,000 short and need that extra year to save up even more.
Really the only reason we're waiting til 2011 is money - but hey, more time to DIY and spread our payments out. AND get cheaper pricing by locking in early rates. Yay, 2011 brides! My new home board! :-D
YAY! a 2011 Board!!
MY fH and myself are planning a destination wedding to Jamaica in April 2011. We got engaged Christmas night 2008 (last yr) and our engagement will total 2 yrs and 4 months haha!
I wanted the wedding April 2010 but my monster in law flipped out when we told her because her daughter (SIL) is graduating college in May, and the months are too close together. She stomped her feet and had a tantrum until we moved it back a year. (resentment? YES) But on the positive side- it gives me plenty of time to DIY and save up considering that we are paying for it ourselves. (Hence a destination wedding).
We have picked out our theme and colors (black and cream vintage with damask print) and we are going to see the resort this April to book it and meet with our coordinator.
Our resort has ancient ruins from the 1800's when Jamaica was all sugar plantations. Its absolutely breathtaking and it will go perfectly with my "vintage" theme. :)

I'm not "officially" engaged yet, the ring is coming soon, but we're planning a 2011 wedding. January 15, 2011 as of now. I wanted to get married in August of 2010, but he thinks we should wait until January so we can save up more money. I'm hoping I can talk him into August though! Yay for 2011 brides though!!
@nurselindsey---we're date twins!!! jan 15, 2011 for me too!! it's a holiday weekend too! (that is if you end up on jan 15...not that i'm biased or anything :)
Bellini - Aw how awesome!! Well maybe we'll stick with that date :) You and I will both be stressing about everything at the same time haha!
