I grew up in the Adirondacks, we live on the Jersey shore but are getting married in Vermont - my mother lives there now.
We're getting married in Charlotte. :)
I'm getting married in Vermont in September! We are from California and are having a destination wedding. We are so excited!
Yes, I am getting married in Vermont! Not Stowe, but in Manchester. I grew up in NH, and my fiance and I met and live in the Boston area. His parents have a ski house in VT, so we spend a lot of time there. I guess it's a semi-destination wedding, or something like that
. We can't wait! I just emailed a bunch of photographers, and we need move quickly on finding and booking a band as well, so if anyone has any tips or recommendations, it's definitely appreciated!
@eureka80s: Yeah! another VT Bride! I love our photographer. His name is Doug Todd. He is such a cool guy and VERY resonable compared to others. His website is dtpwedding.com He is new to the VT area and did a lot of commercial work in NYC. He is a bit quirky but so are my fiance and I so that works. He is out of Vergennes.
I don't know much about bands. We are having a DJ and an acoustic guitar player for the ceremony and cocktail hour.
@Jushackett: Thanks for the tip! The photos on his site look great, so I just sent Doug a message; we'll see. Other photographers are certainly coming in with large price tags!
I'm excited to be able to talk and share with other VT brides. Thanks for getting this started!
@eureka80s: Oh good! I definitely think you will find his price more affordable. My Fiance and I are on his website (under engage, the couple playing pool). We are interracial and every other photographer that I looked at did not have any diversity in their portfolio (i know, it is vermont) but when I saw Doug's work it just spoke to me (cheesy I know). Then I met him and found out the cost....booked him immediately!
Where in Manchester are you getting married? we are getting married at the Stowehof Inn (www.stowehofinn.com) although the website does not do it justice...they really need an upgrade!!
@Jushackett: What a nice couple! You guys are so cute in your green sweaters ;) And you're right, Doug certainly has more diversity on his site than any other VT photographers I have looked at!
We are getting married at the Wilburton Inn, which is this big, old mansion with amazing mountain views and eccentric owners who have an odd collection of sculptures scattered around the property. We can't wait to have all of our friends and family gathered there with us! And I think the Wilburton is in much greater need of a website upgrade than Stowehof is!
I am getting married August 2011 in Shelburne. We live in NYC but spend a lot of time in Vermont. It is so nice to see a community here!
Also, does anyone have recommendations for a rehearsal dinner? We actually wanted to do a "Welcome to Vermont" party and invite everyone to a casual dinner the night before.
@gwenhope3: Some people might gawk but we are actually doing a "pizza party" dinner the night before. We do not have a wedding party and will probably have close to 100 guests the night before the wedding as well as the wedding. I just couldn't see having 2 recptions so we are having a pizza, salad, bread, beer, wine and then a S'mores bonfire. It is not very "vermonty" but thought it would be a good way to get everyone together and keep the costs low. At first i was like "no way" now I am excited for it!
@gwenhope3: Oh and welcome to the VT board! Are you getting married a Shelburne Farms by any chance? Ilove that place!
I'm a VT bride from VT and set to get married in VT in May. My fiancé is from MA but we are getting married just over a half hour away from my home town. I'm getting married in an area just a little ways south of the Northeast Kingdom on the eastern part of the state. It's exciting to finally see some people from VT on the boards that are getting married this year.
I am getting married in VT!!! We are from MA but doing a destination wedding b/c my family was getting in the way of what we wanted.
We are getting married at the Hartness House in Springfield. We are so excited!
@Jushackett: We are actually getting married at All Souls Interfaith Gathering. Love Shelburne farms too (just a little over our budget). :)
@gwenhope3 All Souls Interfaith Gathering is beautiful. :)
We're doing our rehearsal dinner/welcome reception at the Boat House next to the Echo center and having an outside caterer. It's right by our hotel block so it works perfectly :)
@Jushackett: Hi everyone. I'm getting married in Stowe in September 2011. I'm planning the reception at the Stowehof Inn, but haven't made any concrete plans yet. It's going to be a really small wedding and reception. We're getting married in the little chapel on Mt. Mansfield. Does anyone know about the Stowehof Inn? I live in Colorado so everything is being done long distance. Any advice is welcome! Thanks!!
@autumnsmommy: Hi! I am getting married at the Stowehof Inn!!!! :) I can't wait! I must have looked at just about every venue in Stowe and The Essex (in Essex) but chose the Stowehof because of the charm. We are having a medium size wedding (invited about 200 will probably have 120-130 attend) with the ceremony, reception, and after party all at the Stowehof. 100% of our guests are travelling from out of city, most out of state and some out of country so we rented all the rooms. I am so excited!!!
I work at a 5 star/5 diamond hotel so my expectations are a little higher when it comes to hotels and while I feel as though the Stowehof is DEFINITELY more relaxed than the hotel I work in, I was impressed with the staff when I came for my tasting and I didn't stay over but my mom and sister did. Saunie, the wedding planner there, has been great and recommended some great vendors as well.
Let me know if I can answer anymore questions for you. But if you are looking for a relaxed place with tons of charm to get married....then the Stowehof is great!
Hey VT gals!
Is anyone familiar with Windsor? I'm getting married at Juniper Hill Inn, and am looking for a fun place to rent out for a bbq for the night before. I was thinking a park or pavilion or something where we can bring in a caterer. Any ideas? I'm planning from CA so it has been a bit challenging....
@LeahP
I am not sure about rental space, but definitely check out Spice of Life catering - they have FABULOUS bbq menu options!
@Jushackett: Thank you so much! I looked at every place to have my reception too, and the Stowehof Inn seemed like the best one. I've been in touch with Saunie for about 2 weeks and she's been wonderful and so helpful eventhough we didn't give a down payment yet. Not every venue has been as nice and helpful. I can't visit the Stowehof before the wedding, unfortunately, but I'm really looking forward to staying there. And if you work at a 5 star hotel, I trust your opinion. When is your wedding? Thanks again for the info. It definately made my decision easier!
@autumnsmommy: My wedding is Memorial Day weekend (May 29th). I want to make sure you don't get the wrong impression....the hotel is by no means a 5 star establishment it is definitely more relaxed so I went into it not expecting all that much but have been pleasantly surprised along the way. I went up once to look at venues and chose the Stowehof and then went up one more time (with fiance) to do our tasting and all the good stuff...the food was great and the cake lady they recommend is PHENOMENAL!
The grounds are beautiful and it is in a great location. I really wanted to have a place that had a bar for an afterparty and Coslin's Pub that they have is soooo cute! Where are you planning from? Have you been up there at all?
@Jushackett: I really love the way pub looks. I haven't been there and I might not be able to see it until the day before our wedding. I'm planning everything long distance. I live near Denver in Colorado. The Inn looks beautiful though. I also heard really great things about the cake lady!! I spoke to her on the phone yesterday and she's so nice. She said she would send me some pictures of the cakes she's done. I can't wait to see them! I wish I could get there to do the tasting and see it first, but something about the Stowehof Inn stuck out to me out of all the rest, so I'm going with my instinct!
@autumnsmommy: Yes, the pub is great...it has very low ceilings just fyi if you have any tall relatives. They have 2 pools....although the indoor pool is pretty small, Volleyball, bocci ball, tennis courts, etc. Lots of activities. That is a total bummer that you can't make it out there before and I wish I had some pictures to send you. I never really took any. Marion, the cake lady, is so great she is making the wedding cake and then a grooms cake that I am surprising my fiance with. I totally recommend her lemon/orange cake....even if you don't like lemon/orange cake! I never thought I would but seriously I have already asked her if she would freeze and ship me some! She will! :) Let me know if I can help recommend any other vendors. So far I have been really happy with all mine!
@Jushackett: Wow, I didn't realize there were so many things to do there. My guest list is only 40 people long. Orange/lemon cake sounds good. I should ask her if she would do each layer a different flavor. :) Marion emailed me a form to fill it and she wants to know who my florist is, but I don't have one yet. I was wondering if you could recommend one that is reasonably priced and does nice work? Suprising your fiance with a cake is a great idea! I'm getting really inspired by this whole website! I love it!!
@autumnsmommy: Marion, Can definitely do multiple flavors. We are doing vanilla and the lemon/orange and then the grooms cake will be chocolate fudge. Yummy! Something about that lemon/orange cake though.....It is ridiculous.
I am using Schoolhouse Florist for the flowers. The womans name is Nancy Murray, she definitely seems to know what she is doing. Saunie recommended her and showed me some pics of her work which were lovely. I didn't want to spend a lot of money on flowers either but she is also doing paper lanterns in the tent for us and of course my boquet and boutainerre ( I am not having a wedding party) and also lightly accenting the birch arbor for the ceremony. I really didn't do any comparison shopping but I also didn't feel like she was taking advantage of me. We are paying around $1400 for everything. The majority of the money is the paper lanterns which I really wanted to have and also piece of mind, Nancy will take care of setting everythign up that day so I don't have to worry about it. She is definitely worth a phone call.
I am thinking you will probably we having everything inside right or are you planning on doing a tent? The restaurant is nice but a little dark in my opinion so just something to keep in mind when choosing flowers. We invited close to 200 people so we are doing a tent in the back.
@Jushackett: Thank you so much!Your wedding is going to be beautiful!! I love your idea for the paper lanterns! I don't think I'm going to have a lot of flowers, just for the centerpieces and bouquets for the girls and boutainarres for the guys. I just can't believe how expensive some bouquets are. My parents keep telling me I can have whatever I want and not to worry about price but I've always been thrifty by nature... so it seems absurd for some of these wedding things to cost so much!
I'll probably have the reception inside. I totally trust Saunie's recommendations, especially since she pointed me in the direction of Marion Peer for the cake... which I can't wait to start planning. :) Hopefully the weather will be nice so we can do pictures by the pool. They really have a beautiful outdoor area. I heard from someone on weddingbee about Doug Todd for photography. I saw his portfolio online and it's beautiful. Are you doing the ceremony at Stowehof too?
I also thought of borrowing your idea to surprise my fiance with a cake. He's in a Lineman's union and so is the best man and one of our guests. They travel all over the U.S. to build/repair power lines, and it's a huge part of our lives, so I was thinking about going with that as a theme. He would definately be SUPER suprised and they would all love it! Haha, I feel like I'm writing a book here. :) Thank you so much for the ideas and name of the florist. I REALLY appreciate it!!
@LeahP: That area is further south than where I live but I know that different state parks have pavilions to rent. I almost was going to have my wedding at the state park near Springfield. I'm not sure how close you want the venue but here's the link to what the state parks have http://www.vtstateparks.com/htm/shelters.htm.
@Jushackett: Did you find a local acoustic guitar player? We just got engaged a couple weeks ago but already found a venue and would like acoustic guitar during our cocktail hour too.
My fiance and I are going with All Souls Interfaith Gathering - we are patiently waiting to confirm the October 13 2012 date (if all goes well we just need to pay the deposit and it's ours) - ideally we want to get married in Autumn next year and the second date we can have is September 22 - otherwise we will have to stick to summer. I LOVED what I saw - it was perfect setting for us. I think a fall wedding in Vermont will be amazing.
Wonder if anyone else got married at All Souls,..?

I live in NC but but grew up in CT and spent a lot of time in VT so my fiance and I chose Stowe as our destination for the wedding. Anyone else getting married in VT? or more specifically in Stowe?
