I am around 5'7" and just bought my shoes off of Ninashoes.com in the design your own feature! I got a 2.5" heel. My FI isn't too much taller than me, but with him wearing the nice shoes with a little bit of a heel on them, we'll be about the same height to each other as we are barefoot. It stinks being tall sometimes!
Ugh it really does!! I never even think of myself as being tall usually...I wish I had realized this before I got the dress, I might have waited and ordered a new dress with extra length :(
I'm 5'8" with a sample dress. I'm wearing kitten heels. FI is pretty close in height to me (he's 5'11") so I definitely want to look shorter!
Just think, you'll be comfortable in your shoes all day!
I just ordered my dress yesterday. :)
I am not sure if the length of gown varies by manufacturer (my gown is a Rosa Clara), but I am almost 5'8" and I will be able to wear 3.25 inch heels (probably even 3.5 inch heels) with my gown as is, i.e., without adding any extra length or having the dress hemmed.
Have you tried on shoes with your gown?
I am wearing 3.5" heels with my dress. I am just at 5'7" and did not order any extra length on my dress....they actually had to hem it about an inch. I originally wanted 4" heels but FI is just at 6' and I like him to be taller :) And we are having a Catholic ceremony which is an hr long and there is some standing, kneeling, and sitting involved and I thought it would be a bit safer (in regards to tripping somehow) by lowering my shoe by ½" :)
@Miss Cosmopolitan- I didn't try shoes on with it yet :( I made an appointment to go next week, but the woman I spoke to on the phone said that I would probably only be able to do 2" and MAYBE 3". I'm REALLY hoping that 3" is doable. It's a Romona Keveza...I don't know if they tend to run long or not.
@hotchild--the comfort factor is the only bright spot, lol. Even though I was prepared to not be able to feel my feet after an hour or two--I was okay with that!
@ MissDane--I am so happy to hear that!! I'm hoping that maybe the dress is a little longer than the bridal salon realizes...
Hmm...maybe you should just try shoes of varying heights on with your dress? I'm around 5'7.5" and have a sample dress. My 3" heels are being shipped, but I think (hope!) they are going to work. I would try shoes of different heights (just from your closet) on w/ your dress. It may end up working out.
That's weird! I'm 5'8" and bought a sample dress, and had to have it taken up it was so long, plus I wore 3" heels with it! I think I got lucky!
@Laylabelle: It may also depend where you carry your height. I have a super-short torso (for my height) so I actually need the dress taken UP on top. But I have really long legs (34" inseam) so the length is perfect.
Try on shoes with different heights. I ended up wearing a 2.5 inch heel and it worked perfectly. In fact, by the end of the evening, my gown was to the floor (the silk satin gown sorta melted when I danced!)
Well then, it ain't over until every heel height has been attempted! I think you might be pleasantly surprised! *Fingers crossed* for ya Doll!
I'm 5'7 and bought a sample. With my 4" heels, it's the perfect length. No adding or hemming necessary :)
@hotchild - I'm pretty proportionate.... long torso, long legs. I think it was the designer. It was a VERY long dress.
Yayyy I'm so happy to hear that some of my fellow 5'7"-ers are able to rock the high heels. I"m very hopeful now :) Thanks so much bees!
I'm 5'11" and FI is about 6'1"
I'm going to hopefully rock some big ol 2.5" heels, lol. We'll see, i ordered a bunch yesterday.
Hmmm.... My dress is also a Romona Keveza. I'm 5'5" and wearing 3" heels, making me 5'8" in the dress... and the seamstress definitely had to hem off several inches of the original fabric to make that work out. So it seems to me that if R.K. dresses all come in a similar length, then you should be fine. Right? I would bring some shorter and some taller heels with you when you try on the dress, just in case the tall ones don't work out.
I'm 5'8" and wore 4" heels. My dress was J.Crew, not designer, but was standard length and un-altered. Actually part of the reason I picked the shoes was because the height was perfect for the length of my dress!
@skibobrown--I just looked back in your posts to find your dress, and to repeat myself--I LOVE it. It's such a classic look! I'm hoping that my R.K. is as long as yours seemed to be.
Oh gee. Thanks! **Blushing** I finally have pictures of me wearing it, since I had my first fitting over the holidays. Maybe I will post some pics later on when I get back home!
hilsy85 do you have a pic of your dress? what style is it?
I'm 5'6 and I still had to get length added to mine so I can wear heels but I think that is just because of the style of my dress. Try on lots of styles of shoes/heels and maybe something taller can still work!
@Sulli301- it's a Romona Keveza gown. I don't have the style number unfortunately, but it's a modified A-line. In this picture you can that it does look kind of long, so I'm hoping I have the length to go up at least three inches.
Ok, I'm jealous of all of you who did not have to order extra length. I'm 5'8" and have 2.5" heels AND had to have 5 inches added to my dress. The dress didn't even hit the floor when I was in bare feet!
I think the standard hollow-to-hem measurement for a Romona is 58.5 inches . . . if you knew your h-t-h measurement, you would have a better idea of how many inches of heel height you can go for, give or take . . .
@hotchild - OMW, body twin much!? I'm 5' 8", J is 5' 11"; I have a short torso and a 34" inseam TOO! And I'm planning on kitten heels :)
What's your dress look like?
It depends on the fit of the dress... you can use Miss Cosmopolitan's hollow-to-hem stat as a guide. I'm 5'8" (just about) and could wear 3" heels in most dresses I tried on (although with some designers, I was limited to 2"). I ended up ordering 3" extra length so that I could pick shoes I liked instead of just shoes that weren't too tall... I think I'll have to lose 1-1/2" of it.
@hilsy -- I LOVE your dress too! Aren't Romona's dresses so elegant? There was a thread on the Bee a few days ago where people were listing the hottest dress designers, and Romona Keveza came up multiple times :-) I actually had never seen her dresses before I tried them on, but I fell in love at the first bridal salon that I went to.
@skibobrown- They are SO elegant! That's exactly why I love them; I had a whole bunch of them marked when I went dress shopping. I admit, I went through some major doubts recently because I was worried my dress was too plain, but I think the beauty of RK dresses is in the fabric and the fit. Can't wait to see pics of your dress!
Thanks for the tips everyone! Err...how do I do a hollow to hem measurement??
oh no! Im 5'7" and I wore louboutins...they were 5 inches (DH is 6'3"). Luckily my dres (an Amsale) was exactly 5 inches too long so with the shoes I needed no alterations.
Your dress is SO beautiful! I almost went with a Romona but ended up with mine.
i'm hoping to have 3 inch heels just to meet my dress length and to be a bit shorter than the FI (6'1")
it's that in between size that's hard to find!! ugh
I'm 5'6" and 3/4 and my dress is the same situation- I can wear up to 2 inches tops! But that's ok because I'm not great at walking in big heels.
@KellyV--oh no! That pretty much cancels out my dreams of wearing Loubs.. I might have some lee way with heel height, but I'm pretty sure I don't have an extra 5 inches :( Thanks for the dress love--I adore yours as well and was stalking a Tyler dress for a while on preownedweddings.com when I was having dress doubts.
@kjpugs: I'm not great at walking in high heels either, but I loooove the way they look! It's worth some wobbly steps to have shoes I love :)
@hilsy - Aweee thanks *blush*
I dont think all Loubs are 5 inches. Mine were only that tall because of the platform under the toe/ball of the foot area. You can probably find some shorter ones, I know I saw Samantha on SATC wearing a shorter pair in one episode (and I can tell ya which episode too lol) Also, Manolos might be a bit shorter as well. You might be able to do it! Im very long torso with shorter legs, so thats probably another reason I had so much extra room. Try it, you never know!

I bought a sample dress, meaning that I couldn't add any extra length to it--I bought it as is. I'm 5'7" and the bridal salon said that I could probably only wear 2 inch heels :( :( I had my heart set on a pair of Manolos or Louboutins or a variety of other lovely shoes...all of which are at least 3 inch heels...Are there any 5'7" brides out there who did NOT order a longer length but were able to rock 3" heels??
