sara79:  I am not an actuary but I did take some courses in college in actuary. I planned to take exam P and FM but unfortunately did not.  A girlfriend of mine has her degree in actuarial science and passed P but has not had luck finding a job in the field.  Most companies want at least 1 exam passed prior to hire with the assumption more will be taken during employment.

I do know that the classes were pretty intense. My degree is in applied mathematics and they were probably the tougher of courses I took.  What is your background in that is leading you to an actuary as a possible career change?  Hope any of this helps! 🙂

Wow, I think you have a great background for actuary. It can’t hurt to take the exam, even if you can’t find a job in it right away you still could have at least one under your belt. Which one are you planning on taking first? I think when I was in college they recommened p to take first. I know there are a lot of great tools/books out there to help prepare. I had come across a great forum awhile back of people studying and helping each other  but I can’t remember what the website was at the moment.  I think 2 months is a good amount of time, maybe break it down and stick to so much a week.  I am interested to keep up with your journey through this to maybe fulfill the itch of never doing it myself. Best of luck to you!

sara79:   Also, I would recommend checking out job listings awhile in your area to see what they are requiring for the positions.

Great! Glad to hear you are going to do it.  I’m sure you will do great! I don’t know how much help I can be while you are studying but I’m here if you have any questions that I can attempt to answer ha ha.  🙂
