Any brides out there getting married at the Audubon Center in Audubon, PA this summer/fall? Have you seen the “improvements” they’ve suddenly made to the pavillion ceiling?
I attended a wedding there last weekend for my best friend, and many were not impressed. (Although the bride still had a fantastic time!)
What do you think of it? Is it ok to make those changes like that without asking brides?

I had a friend who had a venue for her wedding repainted be the owner with no forwarning. But honestly, if its not in the contract, it is their building, they can do what they want. I know it sucks if the places looks bad after, but what can we brides really do but lose our deposits.

I think it’s 100% ok to make changes to a venue without asking the brides. They own the building and they can do as they see fit. Now, most good venues would let you know ahead of time if there was construction or improvements planned, but they don’t have to unless it affects your party.
What is so bad about the new ceiling? I’m curious!

Yeah, I agree that if they own the building they have the right. This is just very different than it was when I visited with her in the past, so it actualy changes the decor. Before it was just a simple exposed beam roof (it’s a fancy outdoor pavaillion.)
KateMW — how to explain it? They hung about 70 big white and black flags hanging down from the ceiling, all throughout.

hi birdy45 – i just visited this venue the other weekend and one of my first questions was “are these permanent?” the coordinator tried to play it off, like oh aren’t they beautiful?? i wouldn’t say they are terrible but i guess it depends on your existing color scheme/vision. maybe if you hung a bunch of paper lanterns it would help hide the banners?

Does anyone know if the ugly banners are still there? They don’t show them on their website!

As of Thanksgiving weekend, they were still there.

I looked there a couple of years ago, and wasn’t impressed by the pavilion ceiling at that time…nor was I impressed with the coordinator (but she has since gone somewhere else I think). We loved everything else about the venue though. Does anyone have a picture of what the ceiling looks like now?
Ultimately, I agree with pp that I don’t think the venue needs to inform all of their brides beforehand when they make changes (I mean, in theory, most changes to a venue would *actually* be improvements, right?), but maybe it’s worth asking to see if they can roll up / remove / hide / cover the banners for your wedding, as it is different than it was when you chose to book there?
White and black flags seem like such an ODD choice for a place like that – that seems to pride itself on the natural look, browns and greens, etc.
