I had a boyfriend in my early thirties who got me a gym membership, a razor, and a wood burning kit for my birthday. I just looked at him and said “so, you think I’m fat, hairy, and bored!?”.  The look on his face was priceless. I got diamond earnings the next day.

MechEBee:  DH is notoriously bad too. Our first Christmas in our house he got me a tiny pink 22 rifle meant for an 8 year old. Another year I got one of those cheap make-up kits from the pharmacy. I could go on and on. He has a habit of shopping at pharmacies, not sure how that gem got started. Lol.

When I married my ex-husband my MIL insisted on giving us VERSIONS of what we’d somewhat reluctantly put on the gift registry she insisted we had. So instead of a king-size duvet, we got a standard double. Her reasoning (?) being that until you stop renting and buy a house you won’t be needing a king-size bed. So we ended up with an item already too small for purpose.

My own mother was generally a great gift giver. So I have no IDEA what went through her head the year she sent me the most revolting, pink and purple crochet hat and scarf. The hat would have made a fine tea cosy but it was not suitable for any human heads.

MechEBee:  tksjewelry:  LOL, dying over here. My FI too, is a terrible gift giver, although I have to admit he is getting better.

My FI got my an owl stuffy that when you press a button plays peek-a-boo with you and says different things like… ‘you’re a hoot’ and ‘I wuv you’. I was like WTF… this is a toddlers toy?!? LOL… he saw my confusion and ended up returning it for something more… age appropriate bahahha.

Steampunkbride:  my mom did that one year too! She’s usually pretty good, then one year I got a ceramic high heel shoe wine holder. WTF am I supposed to do with that? Lol, it got donated to goodwill.

tksjewelry:  Haha! It’s all the weirder when usually they are so good at gifts, isn’t it? I just opened this outrage and stared at it with total “Like WTF?” horror. I donated it to a charity shop too!

MechEBee:  my husband is a nurse and had told a friend that even the gross parts of it are weirdly fulfilling because “dignity is having a clean asshole, and if ever I can’t clean mine on my own, I would sure want someone to graciously help me out.”

Well we were opening wedding gifts in front of a bunch of family, and the first card just said “Dignity is a clean asshole. Have some dignity.” Inside was a bidet that you attach to your toilet. Lol! And it turns out it’s awesome, we love that thing.

MechEBee:  Oh yes..I got some interesting gifts for my shower. They were all from my mom. First she got me THREE boxes full of Victorias Secret lingerie for our honeymoon. Yep that was embarrassing to open infront of a room full of family. Then she gave me a real mink shawl…like the ones your grandma would wear back in the 40s…it was 3 minks ( with the faces and feet still attached!) all connected to make one long shawl. She said it was my “something old”.

Oh gosh these scare me. I did not register for much and I’m terrified I will get those hideous sterling silver picture frames with loving sayings and rhinestones on them. Something like this…
