It would be fun to find other brides in the area to compare vendors and ideas :)

I'm currently living outside of Baltimore but getting married oug of state, but I used to be a catering manager for a hotel downtown!  Let me know if you have any questions and I can probably help recommend!  :-)  Do you already have your venues booked and everything?

The ceremony is at the Goucher College Chapel and the reception is at the Science Center. I am so excited.

What about you? Where are all of your wedding festivities taking place?

Marylander, but getting married in DC. :(   Not my first venue choice, but we have so many out of towners, it made the most sense.

Oh and I do also suggest the Science Center to anyone looking for a cool venue. The co-ordinator there is AMAZING. The prices are fantastic and it has the best view of the city by far (they have a rooftop tent for their events).

Not many people know they do weddings. It is so cool. We get cocktail hour on the roof (you can do the whole things there if you want) and dinner and dancing is in the main lobby. The exhibits are open to the guests, which is nice for the older folk who don't want to dance the night away.

I'm originally from Dundalk and Mr. LK is from Bowie. Yeah, we had classy upbrings. LOL

We live in Howard County now, and love it here! We're planning to move a bit farther out towards Mt. Airy after the wedding. House hunting = ugh.

@sbharkness83: I have to tell you, I was up on the roof for an event once at the Science Center. (Very nice,. by the way!) It was a dedication for new construction they were working on. I really wish I could remember what they were building. But anyway, I got to sign one of the beams!

Okay, so that was mostly unrelated but it makes me smile.

Hazzard County here...but that's close enough!

For vendors up this way I recommend Dee's Flowers in Aberdeen (Dave is awesome) and cakes from Desserts by Rita in HDG. Their cakes are phenomenal!!!

@RahlyRah: I grew up in Canton and it has changed a lot since I lived there...lol. It used to be a huge Polish community.

@sbharkness83: Psst...never call Highlandtown and Canton the same place....natives get offended...lol. Actually Highlandtown was anything Eastern Ave and north. I have no idea what the boundaries are anymore. I moved out 17 years ago.

@Storm0075:  There is actually still a pretty decent Polish community there (a bunch of our best friends/bridal party are Polish).  I actually lived in Canton up until last year when I moved in with my FI.  I loved it.  He works in the city and we both are city people so we def want to move back :)  Now if only we could find a place with a parking pad!

I may or may not be stalking this thread. ;)

I was born and raised in Baltimore County, but right now Mr. Lox and I are city rats for a bit. We actually live in Canton now, although we'll probably be moving to Howard County near the end of the year.

All you yuppies on here...lol That is Canton's new name...Yuppieville. I'm surprised the Pollocks were allowed to stay...lol(And yes I am Polish myself from my dad's side and it is my mom's side that is from that area and they are not)

Seriously though. One of my fav things to do growing up was go down to the wharf and just chill by the water. And If you ever get a chance go into St. Casimir's church. It is stunning. I am not Catholic but thought it was the perfect place to get married as a child.

Did someone say stalking? I love being able to talk to people about familiar palces :)

Anyone have any recommendations for whole sale or pick-your-own flowers?  I am using mason jars with flowers as part of my centerpiece and just want loose flowers to set up on my own.  Anyone know a place where I can find inexpensive loose flowers?  I am thinking daisies, peonies, or hyrdangeas...

@RahlyRah: There is a wholesale flower place in Silver Spring (Potomac Floral) that I've heard good things about. I considered it for a hot second, and then decided that DIY flowers were too much stress. LOL

@lox: Howard County FTW! I lived in Baltimore County, 2 miles from the city line, for 29 years, thought I was a B-more girl through and through, and then converted without a single look back. It is a much more polite way of life in HoCo. Our neighborhood has a ginormous farm on one side and the mall on the other. Perfect! Too bad Mr. LK wants to move farther out. :/

@lovekiss: Yeah, it's a school district thing for us. Buying within a school district we like is cheaper than buying in the city and then paying for private school. Alas and all of that jazz. I've actually lived in Howard County before and quite liked it. But I'm glad we moved into the city just so we could enjoy it for a while. We were in the right place at the right time and it's an absolute blast. At least I'll be able to say I did it once!

@RaylhRah - Siecks on Chase St is a wholesale flower/ plant company... Also, Wegmans in Hunt Valley will put together arrangements for great prices.

@lox: Schools and safety are why we moved here. I lived in a cheap area of Baltimore County and paid out the wazoo for private school for DS (Gilman... my pocketbook still hurts). Honestly, he likes public school here in Howard County more than he ever liked private school in Baltimore. And now we'll be paying lots of money for a mortgage, but at least we'll have a house to show for it!
