we had a florist do our bouquets, coursages, and bouts but we did our own centerpieces buying flowers wholesale. i'm not good with flowers so i didn't want to try anything hard, so we just picked one type of flower and put them in a vase.
We are planning the same thing as artbee. My sister did it for her wedding, my mom did the centerpieces and it turned out amazing!!
We're probably doing our own bouquets through Fifty Flowers since they're just simple, all carnation single-color bouquets. I'm looking into just getting the corsages and bouts from the floral department of the grocery store, though, since I don't want to spend all the time making them and we don't have anything too elaborate in mind anyway. We're doing non-floral centerpieces.
That's really great you all are being so creative and fiscally smart!
I am however, considering doing the opposite, having the floral designer create the big pieces and me just diy the centerpieces. We're having a plated dinner, so there's only needed a tall skinny arrangment for the bar area, for the favor table, and maybe the cake table and the huge arrangement for the chapel.
I'm getting shell bouquets for the bm's and some shell bouts for my FI and the guys, and have the florist do some corsages w/seashells in them for the MOG and my special attendants and my friend who is singing! Maybe the halo for the flowergirls.
I hired a florist to do bouquets, bouts, 4 large arrangements for the church (which we then moved to the reception for various locations such as bar, guest book table, etc,), and pew lights (with greenery) for the aisle. For the reception centerpieces and other reception flowers (cocktail tables, escort card area, bathrooms, etc.), I ordered roses and spray roses from fiftyflowers.com and went the DIY route. But with a twist-- I hired a woman my mom knew to execute most of the work, which was the best $20/hour spent out of the budget. :) I helped with some of the flower stripping and showed her how I wanted the flowers to look in the vases I'd bought, but other than that, I just trusted her to make it look pretty. I posted some tips and a review, if you want to check it out in my profile. I'm so glad I went this route-- I saved a TON of money and got the exact look that I was after. Good luck!
Thanks Jhpi! I'll check it out! I'm also saving some $ by creating my own diy mossy pomanders with organza ribbon and seashells! Doing those to line the aisle and hang them on edge of pews at the church. Also have made some mossy initials and some to hang on doors of church. I went crazy on a diy binge last week and after my home is ready for showing this week (its on the market as of friday), I'll dive right back into more diy!
So you were happy w/50 flowers? Makes me feel safe! :)
I was told their customer service was awesome!
Bellenga, the moss details sound beautiful! Are you having an escort card display at all? I LOVE the ones that utilize moss-- so fresh and green and pretty. Like this one: http://www.thebridescafe.com/?postID=669&diy-escort-card-box
Yes, I was VERY happy with fiftyflowers.com-- I ordered from them twice (once for a sample test shipment that we used for my bridal shower, and then the big wedding order), and loved the quality of both. It might be worth it for you to order a small sample shipment, to check out colors, how long the flowers last, etc. (The customer service line will give you advice on this, but I found it helpful to have an actual order to "play" with and test out, plus it helped me decide what quantity to order).
Also, my first order came with a coupon code that I used on my big order, to get 10% off. I think it was CARE09 or FLOWERS09, so I'm assuming it expired at the end of the year. But I'm sure you can find one by Googling. Good luck!
Thanks for that info! We're not really having an escort card table since there's going to be 50 or less of us and the only table with special seating is ours..(doing a mossy ampersand (saw idea here at the bee but doing mine a bit differently) with organza ribbons tying our chairs together and again more seashells!). Ours is a casually elegant affair. Pretty much everybody will know everybody so it's all good! ;) I'm using alot of green details b/c our colors are a coral-pink and a grassy green! Combining elements of earth and sea!

I am wondering..has anybody done this? Like having the designer create the big pieces and then using 50 flowers and d.i.y.'ing it for the centerpieces or using a local really good flower market or publix create the centerpieces?
Just wondering if anybody has done this before! I know I could save a ton doing this!
