Im looking into getting birth control before FI comes home. And I am considering getting Nuvaring. I know only a doctor can tell me whays best, but I wanted to get some advice or hear some experiences with the Nuvaring. I cant take the pill because is makes me really sick, and I cant get the depo shot or mirena again because of horrible side effects. We arent looking to have children, so I want to be on something, but my choices are fairly limited now. So, anyone have a Nuvaring and like to share your experience?

Nuvaring worked well for me for a number of years, but now I am tired of it. It gets in the way and it really is a pain having to take it out when I have a UTI or some other irritation… two periods in one month anyone!? Also, my doctor told me that tissue is starting to form in my vag because of the ring, so we decided to switch me to a copper IUD… It’s hormone free and you can leave it in for up to 5 years. This might be a really good option for you as well.

I was given the Nuvaring, but I only used it twice so I might not be very much help. My insurance didn’t cover it for one, so it was expensive, and I thought it was awkward putting it in. It also can slip out (which it did for me) which didn’t make me feel very confident.

I have used the Nuvaring effectively for about 6 years now. I have never had any problems, the pill made me sick as well and found that the steady flow of hormones is best for my body. It’s comfortable and easy to use; I highly recommend it! Have also heard good things about the copper IUD but after giving it thought I have decided to stick with the Nuvaring for now.
