Any Bees who did a classics or history major? What are you doing career wise?!

I did classics and art history….worked in celebrity Pr. I viewed it mostly as the piece of paper I needed in order to get jobs later, but I knew it would be in an unrelated field. Originally I wanted to get my MA in museum studies after but I was burnt out.

goingtotherooftopoflove:  I have one of those MAs, and I DO work in a museum! It is a lot of fun, I use stuff from both the master’s and my BA in archaeology at work all the time.

the biggest thing I would reccommend if you want a job in a museum is to find a place where you can volunteer. That experience is so key to getting a job and I know it sucks sometimes to do work without getting paid but the skills you gain and the networking it helps you with are phenomenal.

also keep in mind that unless you work for a government run site or a flagship institution the money you will make (sometimes even then) sucks. On the bright side though, you look forward to working every day!

goingtotherooftopoflove:  Most people I know that did this subject ended up at high school history/SOS etc. teachers or as academics.

goingtotherooftopoflove:  I have a BA in history (graduated in 2010) and just graduated with my MS in Library Science with an Archives concentration (went back to school after a couple years). I’m now working as a Records Manager (records management is related to archives). I really like it!

I have a BA in History, specializing in European History during the Reformation. I don’t use my degree at all. I thought I wanted to go into teaching but then realized I really didn’t like it after volunteering.  Now I work as a paralegal.  I guess my degree allowed me to not be afraid of writing long-winded documents.  Lol.

The only person I know who majored in classics is now a receptionist in a church office. If you’re hoping to work in your field of study, good luck to you! It’s definitely easier in some cities than in others.
