haha, my best friend does that! Her boyfriend goes up to the front desk at the hotel and gives a wink and says " Its our honey moon tonight" and they typically put you up in a nicer room or suite !
@Earlybride: I was thinking about doing this at the hotel. Didn't think about on the plane. Wonder if that works?
I never fly without asking for an upgrade to first class. More often than not (especially when flying alone) I get upgraded. You never lose anything by asking.
Try it! Whats the worst that can happen?
We tried to upgrade our seats on the plane, but it didn't work. However, we did get a better room & free champagne and cakes every night of our honeymoon :)
I have heard of several bees who have been upgraded though, so def throw it out there!
I have never asked for anything like this in my life but it sounds like a great idea! Can't hurt to ask, right? FI asks for discounts all the time and gets them. I just can't seem to do it myself.
I'm going to attempt this but not really for a bump up to a bigger suite (though the next one up is only $30 a day more and it could work!) I just want some free champagne since cruise ships are known for over charging on the liquor.
It depends on when and where you're going. We went over Xmas-New Years week to a super popular honeymoon destination so we got NOTHING. We kept running into other newlyweds.
I'm probably too awkward to attempt this LOL but it wouldn't hurt to have FI ask.
There's no reason you can't at least ask! I've heard of people getting free meals or desserts, glasses of wine, room upgrades, seat upgrades on the plane. I'm kind of surprised more couples don't at least ask!
If you go to a popular honeymoon destination, chances are you won't get anything. Our flight to St. Lucia was prob. 90% Honeymooners complete with the Mrs. New last name t-shirts. However, I have heard of hotels, even popular honeymoon destinations doing something extra. I would suggest emailing the hotel in advance so they can prepare instead of asking ont he spot.
I plan to wear a lovely silk jersey wrap dress and heels (with new husband in a smart-ish pair of linen trousers and a shirt/lambswool sweater) and ask very politely if it would be at all possible to upgrade a pair of honeymooners on their first flight together.
I don't expect to get anything, but it's worth a try!
I didn't have to ask the hotels. I mentioned of course to both hotels that this was a trip for our honeymoon and both upgraded us without us requesting anything.
We did ask on the flight, but rather than bumping us up, they made our luggage priority and noted our boarding passes to let us get on board before others...not bad, not bad...:)
Whoa, now there's an idea! Totally passing the buck to FI on this one. He's an accountant-He'll ask for a discount in a heartbeat!

Im gonna try and do this. When we get to the airport I will very kindly tell the person that we're on our honeymoon and was wondering if we could get a free up grade to first class, if there is room of course. :)
Then when we get to our hotel, do the same thing.
Dont know if it will work, but I dont think it would hurt to try. :)
