esaints2:  Hi! I’m getting married in The Oaks on Aug 1 of next year — just booked! I agree that it’s tough to not have many pictures of the space online to use for inspiration. I actually started emailing local event designers & coordinators and found a few who have worked in the new space. Here is a picture of the reception area she sent me — beautiful! I was worried about that darker side of the room with the big, ugly brown couch.. but these uplit cocktail tables make it look great! I’d love to hear your ideas for the space, too!! Congratulations!

esaints2:  I’m so excited to have found another Oaks Bride, too! Your ideas sound beautiful! Our colors are champagne gold, blush and ivory. Are you currently living in the SF Bay Area? That’s where I am originally from but I was intimidated from planning a wedding from afar! I’m impressed if youre planning from SF!

esaints2:  Amazing!Good for you for planning a wedding down here. I always thought I’d get married in Napa but my parents moved down to Pasadena last year so now I don’t have anyone up there to help with logistics! Good thing I found Calamigos.. because it is gorgeous!

I’ve actually seen the space set up for 120 people and didn’t think it felt or looked cramped at all. We’re probably going to be right around 120. I’d love to see pictures you have of event set up! I’m going back tomorrow with an event coordinator/designer to help me think thru that dark space. I’m really hung up on it, clearly, and I’m wary about those low, wood beams. I’d always envisioned an all-outdoor wedding, so the darkness is driving me a little nuts haha. I’m also having a Jewish wedding and am nervous about being beheaded during the hora! But we’re thinking about doing that and the cake cutting outside under the big tree 🙂 We’re going back on Sunday afternoon, too, to see a Jewish wedding in action, so I’ll post pictures of that when I get them.

Feel free to keep posting pictures! I’ll do the same!

esaints2:

Hello! Like I mentioned, I popped by The Oak Room on Sunday to see a Jewish wedding.. it was beautiful! I also like where they put the photo booth area, so I snapped a picture of that, too. They used the backdrop of the photo booth to cover up the stair case! Would love to hear your thoughts from your visit this weekend!

esaints2:  So beautiful! Thank you for sharing those pictures, I agree, the uplighting is beautiful! Do you have any pictures of the other part of the reception space? Did they do any uplighting over there? I’d love to see it!!

Thanks!

esaints2:  Ah, I see. I agree, the lighting adds a much needed dimension to other parts of the room. Where did this bride and groom put the cake table?

esaints2: Congratulations on getting the vendors locked down and thanks for sharing more pictures! We just started working with Dana from DB Creativity to design our event and Erin Bagaason of Malibu Events by Erin as our coordinator. I’m thrilled with the “team” we’ve assembled! The last vendor I need is a DJ. The hunt is on… have you found yours yet?

Soraya:  So nice to meet another Oaks bride! Congratulations! I’m trying to use the awesome draped part of the room for as much of the event as possible. Thinking about doing a bit of an unconventional layout and I’m excited to see how it turns out!

  • Wedding: July 2015

Hi and Congrats to all! I am getting married at the Oak Room July 4th, 2015. I was so excited to see this message board! I revisted the venue yesterday and my fiance and I were troubleshooting ways to lighten the space/disguise some of the wood. For the most part we are focusing on the bar/lounge area bc it has not draping, etc. I think we are going to remove the couch and coffee table bc they are very dark. Instead we are going to put 2 or 3 high boy tables with tablecloth, flowers and candles. Lots of candles at the bar area and on the stairs to lighten everything up. I think we might do a little up lighting to help too. On the wall across from the bar (next to the stairs) we are going to put a ribbon backdrop for our photobooth. I figure it will add color and also hide the very old air conditioning unit in that wall. Our colors are soft pinks, ivory, and gold with mercury glass. Hopefully this softens the look of the room too. We took lots of pictures yesterday so I will try to upload and share them later. I hope this helps. Sounds like everyone is going to have beautiful weddings. Congrats again  to all!
