I wore my hair down, danced like a maniac for hours, and my hair still looked good at the end of the night. Alas, I have no pro pics back, but I managed to find one (not totally embarrassing) photobooth shot near the end of the night that sort of shows what it looked like. Because I love the people on Weddingbee, I've also included a super-flattering cake-eating shot from the beginning of the night, to show you how it started. The curls fell a little, but I think it held up really well.
I wore my hair down in curls and they stayed all night - I also look better with my hair down. I actually wished they would have fallen more! I had my hair curled early in the morning - between 8 and 9 am for my 5:30 pm wedding and then I had my hairdresser pin the curls. I took them out right before the ceremony and sprayed with hair spray...and they stayed all day and night and I got married in August - in Humid Atlanta!
I am planning on having a half updo half downdo for the ceremony/pictures and our first dance, after that I am having my hair stylist put my hair up for the rest of the night, I have always worn a pony tail I love long hair i just do not like my neck getting all sweaty so I plan on putting it up before I start doing a ton of dancing.
Don't regret it at all. I used a special styling spray that kept my curls all night into the next day! I think I would have regretted putting it up. I heard a lot of that when I was doing hair trials from other people.
I wore mine down for our JOP wedding, lesson learned. Will not do that again. I will not even show you the pics, I hated how my hair looked that much.
I plan on wearing my hair similar to the styles below. It's so pretty; I doubt I'll regret it :)

@Ladyjenn: Your hair was so pretty! What kind of special spray? I bought a non aerosol hairspray but it just seems sticky and makes my hair look dull. I don't really use product though I'm usually a ponytail kinda girl.
@tksjewelry: did you not like having your hair down, or did you just hate the way it came out? I have yet to see a bride with their hair down that didn't look stunning!
@CellaDee: those are great inspiration! I am definitely leaning towards down at this point, now it's like feather? flower? headband? there are way too many choices I want to do it all!
@kamiie: wow I hope my hair holds that long!
@pixie5697: thats what I'm afraid of too, perhaps its possible to buy a clip to quickly put it up if you get hot, I bet it would be cute even if you did it yourself!
sorry for the giant reply post! thanks for your opinions ladies, I think I'm going to be undecided until the day before the wedding I just can't make a decision!
@arenyth: We were outside and even the slightest breeze jacked it up, after several hours - ugh, just not good.
Ah yea I can see where that could go wrong, I'll keep that in mind just in case it ends up a windy day!
@arenyth: If you are going to be near water also. My girlfriend got married near the river and her hair was so frizzy by the end of her ceremony. She should have told the hair dresser that and he would have put stuff in her hair to counter act it.
I'm going to wear my hair down and in a headband, but that's because my hair is very long and curly. And it just looks the best when it's down, not pulled back. It looks really romantic, unique, pretty...... I think I would regret wearing it UP
I wore my hair down. Here's my hair at the beginning of the day (ceremony) and toward the end of the reception after HOURS of dancing. Yes it was sweaty and messy, the curls had come down some, but I don't regret it one bit. It looked like my everyday self and I like that in the photos.
@meliss: I LOVED your hair when you first posted your pics! I'm glad it still looked fabulous after all that dancing! I just hope I can grow it out long enough, my hair loses so much length when it's curled, and its almost to my butt! I think I'm going to start prenatals to help it along :D
@starry: yea I think I'm going to do the same, either headband or small flower pins holding little pieces back. I do think it looks so romantic and I know I look better with it down but I start to wonder if it'll be a hassle along with lugging around my dress haha! I think I'm going to go for it though, long earrings and long hair looks so gorgeous
i would do half-up, half-down with that dress. use loreal elnett hairspray -- it's the best. if this is going to be a big source of stress on your wedding day, though, just put your hair up. it will still look great with the dress (and i would only wear a statement necklace with an updo, otherwise there's just too much going on with your dress and hair).
@kitzy: yea agreed, my mom is gifting me simple pearls anyway for the wedding so I'm just going to go with that.
I threw mine up in a clip at the reception and it didn't look that great, so I would have a plan b for sure if you wear it down
@arenyth: Got one word for you: Extensions!
My hair's past my waist normally also but I wore temporary extensions for fullness and so I don't lose length from the curls.
I'm on the fence about wearing my hair all up or half up/half down. My FI wants my hair down so I think I'm going to wear it that way. I always pictured my hair up on my wedding day, but I guess I can do this one little thing for him!
I regret it a little bit. There are some photos were a piece of my hair flew away and looked totally stupid. I don't know why no one told me or fixed it! I can't even look at those pics and I'm hoping the photog can edit them. My hair did not turn out exactly how I wanted, partly because my hair lady put so much gunk in it to make sure it stayed. It was overkill and actually weighed it down more.
Thanks! Here is the spray they used. I bought it and took it with me to the salon, as one girl who did a hair trial used it and swore by it. It was NOT sticky in the least. Trust me, lasted all day. ENJOY Styling Spray. You would never know there was spray in my hair. I did use a little regular hair spray on my bangs though.

I'm wearing my hair half-up and half-down; but I noticed, a lot of brides really do choose to put the whole thing up. I figured my face wouldn't be the type that would look with all the hair up - so I'm willing to take the risk (and hope for the best) as well as trust my hair stylist.
But, I believe that on your wedding day you should feel the most beautiful that you've ever felt. lol Call me cheesy. Whichever hairstyle that it is .... do it. ;)
I know it sounds bad, but if we did it for comfor - I'd be getting married in sweat pants.
I wore mine 1/2 up and 1/2 down. My wedding was in October so the weather wasn't that warm, but I had NO issues with it staying curled, nor did I when I had my hair trial in August. Here's mine before the wedding:

And about an hour after the wedding:

I think it depends on your hair. My daughter has great thick hair and also used extensions for her wedding. It stormed all morning and cleared up soon before the ceremony, but it was still humid and sticky outside. Her walking down the aisle pictures were great, but in a half hour, most of the curls had flopped and gone frizzy. She had her stylist friend there all day,so they ended up pinning it up for the reception. It always helps to have Plan B.
I needed to have my hair pulled back out of my face but wanted some down on my shoulders.
This was my hair inspiration (photos from 13:13blog.com)
Here is how my hair came out (photos from Cathy Heinz)

I think it depends a lot on the season/part of the country. I almost wore my hair down but I'm so glad I didn't. Between all the hugging and dancing and the fact that it rained and was humid I'm pretty sure it wouldn't have worked and would have gotten stringy. It's nice when it's all up that you don't have to be checking up on it all night!
Absolutely gorgeous dress by the way! Love the rosettes it looks so earthy and yet so elegant.
I'm so thankful for these posts! I am also very undecided about this. I have very long (waist length) hair which is fine and quite thin. It does take a curl very well but because of the length it's eventually going to drop somewhat. My biggest concern is that #1 I'll be having an outdoor ceremony so the wind may not be my friend and #2 after a few hours it may just end up looking a bit "drab" and messy... whereas an updo would hopefully look the same from the morning right through to the evening *sigh*
I have considered wearing it down for my ceremony/photos with my veil (I love the look of hair down with a veil)... and then having a friend (who is a qualified hairdresser) help me to create an up-do for the reception with some nice flowers.
arenyth your dress is gorgeous and I think half up/half down would work really well for the look you're aiming for IMHO :) That may be a nice compromise for you?
Yeah- it wouldnt work for me! I love my hair down and curled but it just doesnt stay very long and the end result isnt pretty like @meliss ! (im jealous!) Ill probably do a messy updo instead :(
aw thanks you guys, I am hoping to achieve a natural earthy look, it is a glamorous dress but i'm hoping I can pull it off in my down to earth way. I haven't really done much research on down dos, I might spend some time looking at them. In May I dont think it will be too humid yet in NY, there is a small lake nearby but I dont think it gets too windy in there, its in the middle of the woods... I will have a backup updo ready in case the day turns out to be too hot or rainy, but I really hope I can pull off down!
I wore mine up and I was so glad I did....It was hot in Palm Springs for the wedding and I sweat a bit during photo time. My hair curls up really really fast when it gets moist or wet or when I sweat and I am sure I would have been unhappy with curly frizzes if it would have been down..
It really depends the texture of your hair and what it does when its being blown around or if you sweat. Given your dress style and the fact that you are pretty and have nice features I would probably suggest wearing it up....
Good luck.

I have been growing my hair out like mad since we got engaged. I have been wavering on an updo vs. down, but my friends and family have unanimously said they love my hair down. I do think that loose curls would be gorgeous, but really, how long does that stay looking good? What if I dance and get sweaty and then my hair looks like shit? I left my hair down for prom forever ago and really hated how it came out, but my hair was a lot shorter then.
My dress has rosettes all over it, and I'm kind of going for a woodland fairy as far as I can go without actually putting on wings lol :) I was thinking of a bunch of small clay flowers and a couple of tiny braids loosely pinned. But really, I want to know if wearing your hair down is worth it. Is it easier just to get an updo and never have to worry about it again? Or did you absolutely love your hair down and wouldn't have done it any other way? I'm worried with a strapless dress that my shoulder should show more. Right now I'm planning on wearing simple earrings and necklace but I'm also tempted by a statement necklace. I have a hair trial in December when I go home and I need to figure this out now!!
Here's my dress if it helps:
