Hi! I’m getting married in Ocean City in June 2013, and have been there many times. We’ll have a guest list of about 60-70 people. Here are some things that I have found with my wedding search:

Fager’s Island is beautiful, and they have a small beach for wedding ceremonies. It should fit 50 people. I learned that with Fager’s, you have to have an early wedding and be out of there by 4 or 5. (Which eliminates the cool sunset over the bay factor at Fager’s)

I looked into Seacrets, but I can’t remember why I chose not to go with them.

I’ve heard good things about Ocean Pines and the Yacht Club.

I’m getting married at Golden Sands Condominiums on 109th Street. The woman who is in charge, Eileen, is awesome. This venue was recommended to me from DJ Rupp (who is my DJ, who is also awesome). Golden Sands has their own private beach, the cocktail hour is on the deck, and the reception is on the 22nd floor that has floor to ceiling windows overlooking the ocean. If it rains, they are able to quickly move the ceremony and cocktail hour inside, up to the 22nd floor. The only thing with Golden Sands is that they do not allowed weddings during peak times of the year. I’m getting married on June 10 (a Monday), and I am the last “Spring” wedding of the year. They won’t allow anymore until after Labor Day because it just gets too busy.

As for Rox Enterprises, I’ve heard Sean is a good officiant, but as for helping with wedding planning, I’ve heard it is a big joke and waste of money.

I’d love to throw ideas back and forth to each other! When are you getting married? Do you have any vendors picked out? I chose Tiffany Caldwell for my photographer… her pictures look great, and she has been really awesome to work with because I live 9 hours away from OC, and won’t be going there until I get married!

I was surprised by Fager’s too! It seems like most places in OC want to shut the party down early….it might have something to do with city ordinances? At Golden Sands, the reception has to be over at 10:00. Kinda sucks, but like you, we plan on taking the party elsewhere, to places like Seacrets. We’re planning on buying a bunch of bus passes so that we don’t have to worry about people driving drunk. You can buy a packet of bus passes from either the bus station or city hall ( I can’t remember right now), for a discounted price, and they can be used any day, that way you don’t end up buying a ton and then having it all go to waste.

I’ve never been to Irene Condos, but it looks beautiful! I definitely think you should just go about planning your wedding without the help of Rox, that way you can have the ceremony look exactly how you want. I’m sure they charge an arm and a leg for it too!

Because this is essentially a destination wedding for everyone, have you thought about having your wedding on a weekday? Ours is on a Monday, so we are getting a discount on many things. Ocean City is a destination for everyone in my family too, so I figured we’ll just make a vacation out of it, and people can stay for as long or as short as they want to. Also, with getting married on a week day, it gives you more options to have your wedding be during the time of the season that you want it.

Also about Golden Sands, because they have a private beach, you don’t have to get a permit to get married on the beach, I would call there and talk to Eileen, they are very flexible with their catering. Might be something to look into while your there to compare the venues. I’m so jealous that you get to go there twice next month!

I’m preparing myself for Senior Week! My mom has been in OC for it, and I know it can’t get completely out of control, especially on the boardwalk. That is definitely a downside to June…but my FI’s job prevents him from taking off days during any other month of the summer, and I’ve always want to be a beach bride…so I guess it’s just something we’ll have to put up with! We’ll just hang out at places where you have to be 21 to go into 🙂

Where are you getting your wedding cake/cupcakes from? I still haven’t picked out a vendor for that yet.

Macky’s would be worth looking into!

For rentals, I was referred to Fabulous Events for chair covers and sashes. I have found though, that buying sashes is actually cheaper than renting them, and then you can turn around and sell them to get some of your money back. There is a good website called smartyhadaparty.com that has good prices if you want to buy things. But once you factor in the rentals and catering, it might be cheaper to just go out to a restaurant somewhere! I would still look into Fager’s, maybe there policy has changed since I talked to them.
