Do you want the chocolate for the flavor or for the look?  I think its usually more for a grooms cake (appearance wise), but have you considered having them frost it with chocolate and then do a fondant over it to cover it?

And also you should keep in mind that not all guests will want chocolate, so it might be good to have some more options.  We did white for our wedding cake, but a chocolate grooms cake.  The grooms cake was very popular– we had none left over at all!

I would prefer chocolate for the taste but since you only get married once (ideally) I am going with buttercream because I want it to look nice as well as tatse good and you can do a lot more with buttercream than you can chocolate.

I personally want a white cake and as much as I love chocolate, I wouldn’t want it for my cake.   Maybe you could get chocoate filler instead?  If you’re paying for it and its what you want looks and taste wise, then go for it.

I personally don’t really like chocolate flavored stuff. Buttercream is the safer choice I think because most people like it, but it’s still totally up to you.

I am a huge fan of chocolate ganache frosting (the actual whipped frosting, not just the melted chocolate). It is really easy for me to work with at home to decorate with, so I doubt professional bakers would have a problem making something beautiful for you. Some people prefer vanilla to chocolate, others prefer chocolate to vanilla so you should really go for what you and your FI want instead of trying to please everyone. If you wanted to give another option, you could always do a chocolate frosted wedding cake and a buttercream frosted groom’s cake as a little switch of tradition.

We had a chocolate cake and everyone said it was the best wedding cake they ever had. It was amazing and delicious. I recommend it highly. Also, my editing didn’t work and the pic is huge!

We’re having a chocolate cake with a chocolate filling, we are big chocaholics and wouldn’t have it any other way! We  don’t even like wedding cake, but my mom, like yours, insisted on a white wedding cake. Our compromise was chocolate cake 🙂

I think they’re beautiful and tasty! I say go for it!

@edub and @maudemaisha: thanks! My friend is a baker and gifted us the cake. He really out did himself and it was amazing. best wedding gift ever (according to me, who LOVES chocolate).
