The recent "show us your dress" post surprised me a little (the comments that is) because I didn't see *one* dress from DB. I know it has a bad rap and isn't considered..."designer" or whatever but....there have to be a few fellow DB brides out there?
I of course eyed many Maggie's and Priscilla of Boston's but...I just couldn't justify spending that much $ on my dress. (My personal preference...wanted a honeymoon to Aruba instead! lol)
(For reference, my dress is: http://www.davidsbridal.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplayView?storeId=10052&catalogId=10051&catentryId=1000048)
I'm a DB bride. I have not any issues with DB for my wedding or when I was a bridesmaid a year ago. They have never been anything but great to work with. Although I am not doing alterations at the store because the price is a little high.
I wanted a dress I love but at a reasonable price.
Yep same reasoning here;
Where are you having your alterations done? I just wasn't sure if other bridal shops would do alterations on a DB gown...
@krqk84 My alterations aren't being done by a bridal shop but a seamstress whose does my MOH dresses. My MOH is a streamstress and she only goes to this lady for her clothing.
I am a DB bride too! I found my dress in about 2 hours and had a great experience with my DB consultant. Although I do agree with above comments regarding the pricey alterations ($150 for a 1/2 inch hem? Yikes!) But overall I have enjoyed by DB experience and can't wait to wear my DB gown this September!
Here is my dress (minus the gloves!):
I am a DB bride also! Though I have been having endless problems with them!
I was told (twice) that they wouldn't order my BM dresses until they had all the sizes for the girls. So I called and (one of my BM hadn't got sized yet) I told them I wanted to cancel the BM dresses since my wedding was going to be smaller than I had first planned. I was told they had already ordered the other dresses and I had been misinformed. Surprise, surprise when after my last BM got sized all of the dresses showed up at one time (we are talking about a 6 wk gap between all the BM and my last BM).
Then I told them to order the cuff for everyone, and the last BM that ordered her dress didn't get one. They 'forgot' to order it and charge her for it. So I am STILL waiting on the cuff for the dress. Thank goodness the wedding is in April.
Then my mom's dress came in and she had someone zip her into the dress. She asked the sales person if the zipper looked funny and the lady said no. When my mom took the dress off and look at it.... half of the zipper wasn't sewed in! So she asked another sales lady and she said they needed to order her another dress. We are also still waiting on this dress.
Even though my BMs and mom get their dresses at DB I only got my bridal sash and veil. I also had a problem with the veil. I got one of the ones that has a colored edge that matches your bridal sash. Well, it came in the wrong color so that had to reorder it and I just got that 2wks ago.
This is my dress, I ended up finding another bride that had the same dress instead of paying full price since I am paying for the wedding and its not going to be a very big wedding.
Oh, and also when I went into DB the first time to try on the dress they told me it was a size 2, so I found another bride with the same dress and bought a size 2 from her. When I got it, I could barely breath in it. Apparently they had put me in a size 4 and hadn't told me correctly. Consequently, I've had to lose 5 pounds that i shouldn't and maintain the weight until the wedding so I can fit in the dress.
I asked DB if that had happened if I had order through them would they have gotten me the correct size? They said no.
DB is NOT doing my alterations. They are on a month and a half wait and I just dont trust them at this point.
Yes! There's so nothing wrong with David's Bridal. Most of the dresses don't look cheap, and they ARE. I shopped a lot in NYC and found stuff at great prices (RK Bridal, Bridal Garden) but in the end, the shape that I really wanted was at David's, and the price was a huge 2nd bonus!
My sister got hers there too (we're 8/8/09 and 10/17/09) - two happy brides-to-be(e)!
And the sis -
@sc8493 - I'm sorry you had so much drama with DB, that does not sound like fun!
Will you be having your alterations done at another bridal shop or someone you know? I do have an alterations appt. set up with DB but I do agree that their alterations prices are kind of outrageous.
I didn't go with DB because of some bad experiences with them as a BM, but just wanted to throw out there, not all the non-DB dresses are super expensive! I was originally going with a Mori Lee dress that would have run me about $500. That's not bad. Alfred Angelo has some in that range too.you can get great knock-offs from China on e-bay for $100. And I'm getting my dress made by a lady at our church, and it's gonna cost $300-400. So DB isn't the only cost-effective choice that some of us are going for!
I'm a DB bride also!! When I saw my dress in the catalog and on the internet I said there is no way that I would ever buy or try on the dress it looks horrible. Well then by accident my sales person saw me tapping the photo while I was talking with my mom, thinking that I was saying I liked it, brought me the dress to try on, and needless to say I loved it. I LOVE DB!!!
I just saw a bride wear that in a wedding - it looks gorgeous, and very glam and unique!
I am a DB bride! I just couldn't justify spending a ridiculous amount of money on a dress. I did splurge a little bit and got an Oleg Cassini dress though!
@Artichoke Heart - were you referring to mine or a different one?
@ehingerp - Blah link didn't work for me :(
I got mine at DB off the Clearance rack - its a Monique Luo CQ110 for $149. I also got my BM dresses there and they were $20 off each dress since I got mine there too.
I am also wearing a David's Bridal dress. I had a good experience at both the David's Bridal locations I went to in NYC. I am sure that there are dresses that are just as cost effective, but I didn't have the time or desire to search high and low (I went dress shopping about seven times and tried on about sixty dresses).
In general I did not like wedding dress shopping process. Most wedding dresses in my price range had too much beading (including many of the David's dresses..mine has very little beading), were not styles that were interesting, were too expensive or the shops I went to would not allow me to take pictures or did not have much variety. All I wanted to do was point to a dress and try it on and then not have to wait 3-6 months to get the dress. I had none of these issues at David's. Honestly, I was at the point where I just wanted an easy streamlined process for a dress at at a good price. I have a ridiculous work schedule an. Besides, I am only wearing this dress once for ten hours so as long as I like it and it looks good on me, I really do not care about the designer.
Oooh I posted on that board, but I never mentioned that mine was David's. I had a great experience with them. :) The best part of all, my dress was less than $600 with tax included!!!! Oh AND I don't need ANY alterations! :)
http://www.davidsbridal.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/Category_-49995489 its in ivory thow its beautiful I luv it!!!
Was referring to ehingerp 's as one I saw at one wedding and was just lovely. krgk84 - love yours, the layers at the bottom really make it different and beautiful!
Yup, I'm a DB Bride. Here's the dress: http://www.davidsbridal.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplayView?storeId=10052&catalogId=10051&categoryId=-49998999¤tIdx=46&subCategory=-49999486%7c-49998999&catentryId=1000367
Minus the train. I'm not a fan of them!
So far so good with DB...the dress should be coming in soon, so we'll see!
I wore a DB- I posted on the "Show us your dress thread" as well. I do think it gets a bad rap and that there are some 'dress snobs' that look down on DB. Well I couldn't care less. They had a great selection of plus-sized gowns and I fell in love with one of them. To top it off, the dress was being discontinued and the store had one that was unworn. So I got my dress for $300 down from $650!
I love it. My sister got her's there, 2 of cousins got their dresses there and they loved their's too!
I am a DB Bride as well. I am a plus size girl so it was hard for me to go many other places in my area to find my size. At DB they have a lot of dresses to choose from. My dress is an older style so when I tried it on I noticed the tag was marked way down. The salesgirl told us that it was being discontinued and we could buy the store sample dress for a large discount. I paid $250 for an $800 dress! It is beautiful and fits perfectly. I don't have a picture right now (I'm writing this in class...oops!) but I will post one later.
Also, I am probably buying my BM dresses from DB too. They have always been great to me and the prices make it so worth it.
hisMrs and I have the same dress! I absolutely LOVE it!! It's got such a vintage-y feel and it's just beautiful. It's sort of modern with the few pick ups but it's just so classy. I LOVE IT!! Here's a link to some photos with actual people in the dress because I think it's actually quite ugly in the pic with the model on the website lol: http://www.preownedweddingdresses.com/dresses/2229/David-s-Bridal--Collection-E9210-Size-8.html
BTW, mine was only $299 because I bought it at the tail end of a big sale in late December. It was originally over $700!! My mom about fainted (because we were told the dress was only $100 off the original price)! The ladies at the store thought there was an error with the computer!! So great!!
I'm a DB bride too!! Here's my dress http://www.davidsbridal.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplayView?storeId=10052&catalogId=10051&categoryId=-49998999¤tIdx=72&subCategory=-49999486|-49998999&catentryId=1000092 but I am going to remove the brooch and add a black sash instead. They have a similar dress already with a sash but I like the pick up on this better. I originally wanted the total opposite of this dress, but I love it and it was cheap!! My BM's are wearing this http://www.davidsbridal.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplayView?storeId=10052&catalogId=10051&categoryId=-49998973&colorName=Pool&subCategory=-49998976|-49998975|-49998973&top_category=&catentryId=1000097 with black shoes.
I have a post previously on this board about being a DB Bride. I just wanted to add pictures of my dress. It is a discontinued style # 9T9251. It is an Ivory/Champagne Taffeta ball gown with beaded side-drape bodice, sweetheart neckline, detachable lace cap sleeves, and a pick-up skirt. Chapel Train. My FMIL bought me a pearl necklace and earrings that look awesome with my dress. I can't wait until June!
I am a DB bride. I do wish I would have looked at all those designer dresses but I'm content. There's nothing wrong with DB. Brides look just as beautiful in them!
I'm not posting mine just in case the fiance looks on here ;)
I went to the David's Bridal in my home town to look at bridesmaids' dresses, and the customer service was just awful, so I didn't even bother looking at their wedding gowns. That said, it's just about the only affordable gown retailer in that small town, and I know lots of girls who have been very happy with the experiences they had there. I think it all depends on what you're looking for from a bridal shopping experience.
I think it really depends on each individual store. I went to David's Bridal and had a great experience. My attendant was very sweet and attentive and helpful. I went in without an appointment and the place was PACKED but I still was seen within 5 minutes. I don't get nagging phone calls or any of the other complaints people have had. (The phone calls are your own fault for saying "yes" when they ask if you'd like to be contacted about special deals/promotions. The floodgates will open on your email and phone!)
I LOVE my dress. The quality is great nad it's unlike other dresses I've seen.
Hey Ladies,
I am also a DB Bride. I am thankful that I haven't really had any issues other then they almost forgot to order my sash until I noticed it wasn't on the receipt. My alterations appt. is on July 18 with them. I am really hoping that it goes well (crossing fingers)
PS: picture is courtesy of DB.
I am a DB Bride too and a DB BM too! Never had a problem, dress was off the rack no alterations needed.
I have had a HORRIBLE experience with DB. I will never refer anyone to go there. I did not purchase my dress there but I purchased my veil there. I wanted something simple and they were the only place I found besides buying online (where I couldn't physically see or touch). My veil had to be ordered. When I purchased my veil I was told that my delivery date would be April 10. Here it is April 15 and I have heard NOTHING from them. My invoice did say "approximate delivery date" but, I called anyway on April 3 to see if they had it yet as I was having my bridal portraits taken April 7. I was treated SO rudely -- I can't even explain how rudely-- when I called. The girl who answered the phone actually said when I asked if she could check to see if it was in, "well, did you get a call" - no - "well, did you get an email" - no - "then it isn't in yet" and HUNG UP!!!
I had a great experience with DB for my dress, but a bad one for the BM dresses. I selected a dress, belt, and peek-a-boo slip for the BMs, and each piece was ordered separately. Well, all the pieces arrived separately, but the store would call each girl whenever a new piece came in saying, "your dress is in." They refused to hold the pieces until all parts of one outfit were ready--so my girls had to make three different trips to store. I would definitely recommend them for wedding gowns, but I would go somewhere else for maids' outfits.
@krqk84 I think your dress is STUNNING!! I haven't seen anything quite like that one yet..and i've been on the DB site several times. I love it.. i dont know if it'll work for me, being as i'm a little top heavy for that type of bodice but i'm gonna check and see if i can find something similar!!
xoxo,
Aimee
I love my address - but I do get the comment from many people I show it to that it doesn't look like a DB dress.
It's so much lovelier in person, and the color is what makes it for me. I'm going to remove the sash and put a mint green one on instead. I love it!
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: tahoma; font-size: 13px; font-style: italic">Gilneas - do you mind posting the style # of your dress? It is beautiful and I would love to look at it in a DB. The color is fabulous, you have great taste!
I tried some designer gowns and i was most happy with my DB dress. I just got the email today that my dress is in Yay!
This is my dress:http://www.davidsbridal.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplayView?storeId=10052&catalogId=10051&categoryId=-49982498¤tIdx=3&subCategory=-49999486%7c-49982499%7c-49982498&catentryId=1000074
I originally was supposed to get a designer dress, but ultimately (mainly because of the salon that I went to, long story) I got a David's Bridal dress. Here she is... They said my dress will be in June 8th!!! Super excited!!!
