It sounds like we are about the same size :) I had really good luck with all of the Pronovias gowns that I tried on because they do a hallow to hem measure so it is custom made it fit a petite frame (rather than just taking length off the bottom). I also really liked a few Jim Hjelm gowns, but they were too expensive.
My gown is Pronovias - Dagan but I also really like Maggie Sottero - Mirabella and Jocelyn. I have pictures of all the gowns that I tried on in my wedding blog at weddingbycolor.com\futuredrbraun if you wanted to get more ideas! Good luck!!!
Hi DrBraun! Thanks for all your help! You look great in your dress! Hopefully I'll find a dress I'll love just as much soon. I'm off to bed, wedding dress shopping tires me. Will keep everyone updated :)
Claire Pettibone! Although her dresses are not as classic as you are describing-but they are so light and flowy and perfect for small gals.
I'm petite and have liked all the fit and flare/trumpet style gowns on me. I also liked dresses that were less fussy. clean lines and shapes seemed to work for me.
not sure if any of the styles will tickle your fancy but JCrew has petite versions of their gowns.
Thanks, all! :) I tried on a Maggie Sottero Harlow today and loved it. But Pronovias Respiro is still on top of my list...what to do what to do.
I'm also a petite 5'2 and can only wish to be a size 2! I'm a bridal 6. I'm wearing 4 inch heels I refuse to look stumpy. I'm putting my feet through hell trying to get them used to the 4 inch heels.
OH btw, I'm a maggie bride and I was able to order my dress in a petite. Hope that helps
@julybride: i think most dresses are now strapless. it's hard to find one that actually has straps, but it seems to be easy to add them...
FOR SALE: Stunning Pronovias wedding gown for petite brides

I bought my dress last weekend at a Simone Carvalli trunk show. It's from the new collection and won't be available until the trunk shows are over, but I LOVE the shape and it is perfect on a petite frame. (I'm 5'3, about 125 pounds, ordered a size 4, which is what the sample was).
I love Sophia Tolli, but any wedding designer that will measure your hollow to hem (as mentioned above) should make it correctly for you. What I find (I'm 5'4" and shortwaisted) is that too much fabric overwhelms me. I was advised early on to stick to a sillouette that offered a sweetheart neckline (I'm also cursed with a small cup size), an a-line or a-line flare of some sort, and absolutely no ballgowns or tea length dresses, unless I wanted to look like Thumbelina. So far that advice has been dead on.
Keep looking, and don't worry so much about the designer as the design and shape of the dress.
Happy Hunting!
Go try everything on with an open mind.
First of all, no two people have any agreement on the definition of petite. Most think it means size 0 only. The minority views it as being vertically challenged, which is what most stores and clothing manufacturers with a petite section cater to.
That said, if you are talking about being short, then you will get conflicting advice, that again no one agrees on as being correct, regarding what styles look best. "Fashion experts", most of whom are very tall since that is what the modeling world focuses on and believes everyone else should be, say that you must avoid ballgowns and be very careful with where the waistline lies otherwise you will look like a disaster. At the same time, there are women who defy those rules and look stunning. Which is why you won't know anything until you actually try dresses on. And you need to try on everything since something that may look great on a model or the hanger won't on a real person and vice versa.

I'm starting to really dislike wedding dress shopping! I can't seem to find anything that looks good on me. I'm petite, 5'1, size 0-2, and I'm looking for a sweetheart neckline, mermaid/trumpet cut dress with slight lace and beading, preferably empire cut. Any suggestions?
Here are some dresses I'm considering: Pronovias Respiro, San Patrick Prado, Casablanca 1914...
Let me know if you can think of any other dresses I should try on... :)
