I want to be but everyone tells me how unflattering empire waist is blah blah blah, and noone has a sample I can try on – but I saw the dress at a bridal show and loved it right then and there, it’s sooo gorgeous.(but I dont want an a-line dress at all and that’s all they wanna stick plus sized girls in)

@Adnama54: OMG. I just saw this on another site that emerald bridal is shutting down!! IM SO DISSAPOINTED. Im calling Catans tomorrow and seeing if I could get a discount at all.  or if I could even still order a dress. :(Their website has been down too, now i know why!!

On to every parade some rain must fall and in the case of Emerald Couturiers in Blountsville, Alabama, the same holds true. But it is also said that in every dark cloud there is a silver lining and that may also be true in this story.

eWedNews has confirmed that Emerald, the bridal gown division, will cease operations. Among other factors the economy was the given as the main reason for the shutdown. Director of Design and 21 year member of the company, Lynn Rohrman, told eWN, “The economy has taken such a burdensome toll on our stores and it’s made it very difficult to continue our operations.” Rohrman also cited the displeasure of the Return on Investment conveyed by Investors of the business as another key factor to the shutdown.

Sources familiar with the story gave their views saying the extensive product line made it difficult to manage a profitable business. According to some, moderate price points in the low 300’s made it difficult for the company to find a sustainable niche’ in the market when, for the same money other more identifiable brands could have been purchased by buyers. “It’s a saturated market right now and things are not going to change anytime soon,” according to knowledgeable sources. It was also felt that company resources were being wasted when effective advertising was called for.

Peter Grimes of Vows Bridal and Wedding Business magazine told eWN, “2008 into 2009 has been an exceptionally difficult time for the wedding business, specifically the wedding dress business.” We asked Grimes if he felt the Emerald shutdown foreshadows a trend in the business. “We’ve heard this before in several different economic downturns but have yet to see any great exodus of significance so far, but we’re definitely keeping our eye on it,” according to Grimes.

“But there is good news in all of this; the flower girl division which is owned by me will continue moving forward, bigger and better than before,” according to Lynn Rohrman. “Jessica is my granddaughter and I’m Lynn, that’s were we got Jessica Lynn flower girl dresses from. We’re already in the process of launching a new web site and starting a whole new chapter in our business,” says Rohrman.

According to Emerald, all in house orders and specials are being honored. “The main thing in all of this is to make certain our customers are being helped. We will be here to support them in this time,” said Rohrman.

Rohrman said she would continue to communicate with eWedNews with any updates involving the shutdown of Emerald and the start up of Jessica Lynn flower girl dresses

I was originally.  I had purchased the following dress.  I bought it 2 sizes too small a 12….and though I started working out immediately,  I panicked and bought another dress at David’s Bridal. I have a post to help me decide on the dress check me out and take a vote. 🙂  I still have the Emerald Dress, I am hoping someone will like it and write to me to buy it.  Maybe I’ll alter it into a party dress….havenot decided yet.

Anyhow, your dress looks very very pretty on you.

and Yeah…its pretty freaky to see the same model in all the dresses.

I dunno.. I tried calling and e-mailing the company and both email and phones are down. Im gonna call a bridal shop that carried it to find out.

edit: I called Catans in Ohio and they just said that they got a phone call one day “We’re done” and that’s all the details they got basically. sooo I have to search for a similar dress.

I saw a TON of their gowns at Running of the Brides… maybe that’s why? They may have unloaded all their stock. If you want one, I’d snatch a sample ASAP!

Yes, Emerald shut their doors….less than 2 weeks AFTER I placed my order!!! I was one of the lucky ones…the sample I tried on was my size and color. The bridal store was awesome with their service. I ended up buying the sample.
