SO and I are starting to look at rings, and the more we look the more I think I’d like an emerald rather than a diamond.
I’m interested in hearing from other bees who have emeralds – are they too soft for everyday wear? Any issues with stones chipping / breaking?
Would LOVE to see some pics – please add the specs of the stone if you know them!

I love my emerald! I get comments on it often because it is just different. It fits my personality..

I don’t have an emerald engagement ring, nor do I have any pictures, but for awhile I was wearing an emerald ring my father gave to my mother over 18 years ago. She had worn it for a long time, and I had also worn it for a few years before I broke the shank and never got it fixed as my engagement ring replaced it.
It was beautiful and the color was extremely unique. I never had a problem with the stone being too soft or chipping or anything, and I was terribly difficult on it. (the reason why the band broke three times)
If it’s what you want, then I would suggest getting it. 🙂

Someone on better than diamond has an emerald wedding set! I think it’s beautiful, especially because it’s so unique!

http://betterthandiamond.com/discussion/ubbthreads.php/topics/789390/17

I just got an emerald engagement ring and I love it! I suits me so much better than a diamond. This ring is from the 1920’s and it just has one small crack that isn’t visible unless you search for it. We opted to look online for rings because finding an emerald ring locally in a hypoallergenic metal proved to be very difficult.
I had one jewelry store lady try to convince me to get a green sapphire because they are more durable but I didn’t like the color near as much. I am a little concerned about fragility but my fiancee and I decided to get a more designed diamond band so I can just wear the band any time I am concerned about possibly damaging it. Overall though, the beauty of the emerald won over my fragility concerns.
1.45 carat natural emerald in platinum. Size 7.25 finger.

I just got engaged! My fiancé picked out my emerald while he was last in Colombia, South America. I love it! It’s a natural emerald, nearly flawless and most amazing green. We designed the setting and plan to flank it with two different diamond eternity bands. One in yellow gold. I love a little different. Here is a pic!
