So when looking for my dream dress, I wanted buttons down the back. When finding my dream dress…no buttons. Anyone have experience with adding buttons to your dress? Was it an incredibly expensive alteration, did you DIY it, was that a total PITA (I have very little sewing experience).
Also, do you think that they are necessary? My Sis tells me skip it… You only wanted buttons to enhance a vintage look, and the pleated train gives you that. Opinions?

ask your alterations person how much they would charge for this, I personally would not attempt this as a DIY, you need someone who has experience doing this on a wedding dress

Get a seamstress to do it. If it was my dress, I’d do buttons only down the end of the zipper, not down through the train.

I’m adding buttons to my dress. At the bridal shop, where I’m getting my alterations, they quoted me 2-buttons per inch and $1.50 per button. Hope that helps!

I am having a corset taken out of my dress and will be adding a zipper, and I want to add buttons to it, too.
The salon I bought my dress from said that it would probably be around $40 to add buttons.. but my dress isn’t due in for 9 months.. so I can only give you the ballpark of what I was told. Hopefully it won’t be any more than that, though, because I don’t think I’d ever attempt to do it myself.. I’m not very needle inclined 😛
