My sister is trying to get her favorite dress (it’s a Midgley & Sottero) cheap. She’s found two websites — topbridaldresses.com and mydress4less.com, that say they will make the dress. I know this is probably a chinese corporation that copies the dresses, and that’s fine. My question is whether the dresses are high quality? And how is customer service? I would love to hear good and bad stories.
THANK YOU in advance!

This was a post on a nother website I am trying to save you the MESS I am dealing with right now! I tried to save about $80.00 on about 6 bridesmaids dress and I am saying EACH! I feel so stupid that I did not bother to look this up. But please read below this person was very knowlegelable and very ACCURATE this site is horrible if I were you I would try best bridal dresses they get there dresses from the manufacturer and you can speak with someone over the phone.
So I just went to the website to check it out and the red flags went up immediately:
1. If you can buy a designer wedding gown for $200, then you are going to get a dress that looks like you spent $200 on it. The reason the prices are so low is because they use shoddy workmanship and inferior materials. For example, the Alfred Angelo dress that you like is made from silk and alcenon lace, while the dress that they make is made from cheap polyester satin and overstiched lace. Huge difference in material that will make the dress appear different. Also some details could be missing like the rosettes on the bodice or the covered buttons down the back.
2. The pictures that you see on the website are not pictures of the actual gown that you will get. See above.
3. If you have a problem with the dress, you will have to call China to deal with it. China is 12 hours ahead, so actually reaching somebody will be a challenge and if you do get to talk to someone, you will be paying the international charges.
4. The return policy( at least they have one) is bad. You have to pay for shipping back and you will lose 50% right off the top. Also, they state that they are not responsible for currency changes, which means if you are due $100 refund, you could only get back $50 because of the currency exchange.
5. You are responsible for any duties or taxes on the dress as it comes into the US. Could be extra charges that you will not know about until the dress is delivered.
I would not pay these people money. I know that everybody wants a good deal, but do you want the stress of having to deal with this company when the dress is messed up. A heads up–don’t only look at the price. Read the FAQ’s, shipping policies, return policies, any thing else that is readable concerning any policy of any kind. Buyer Beware is the best advice I can give you. If you really want to save some money, get on the email lists of all bridal salons in your area. They will email you when they do trunk and sample sales. Most middle-of-the-road bridal stores will have "clearance" sales of dresses that they are trying to offload.

I would REALLY urge against having a copy made. Seems really risky and not worth the stress or money. Just my two cents. Try and find it on websites like oncewed.com or preownedweddingdresses.com.

I ordered my tiara and veil from topbridaldresses and although I have not received it yet, I had pretty decent communication. I changed my order from ivory to white and they emailed me back confirmation immediately. You may want to check out http://www.mydreamdresses.com I sent them and email for a quote with exactly the materials to use with pictures attached and she emailed me back a quote of $295.00 including shipping. They are located in Denver Colorado, so I guess it should be easier to get a live person on the phone.

Sorry I don’t have any experience with topbridaldresses.com or mydress4less.com. I actually have questions about some other sites. This question goes out to anyone who has had a dress custom made that is NOT on the company’s website. In other words, have any of you had a Chinese company make you a dress based only on pictures that you provided yourself?
I want to order a dress from an eBay seller with high feedback, such as gianinar bridal, but their site doesn’t have the gown that I want posted. So, I am wondering if they can make it… Or should I order from Store of Dress or Buyer 100, which *does* have the dress I want posted? I am hesitant about these 2 companies because I want more reliable feedback about their service/quality. I prefer to order from eBay because I trust their feedback system. (Even some of the people on this particular thread seem like they could be working for one of these Chinese companies, if you can judge on their English alone.) If anyone has experience specifically with Buyer 100 or Store of Dress (the sites are so similar, they seem like the same company), please share your thoughts!
Of course, I don’t expect an exact replica or the exact same fabrics. However, I don’t think that just because the prices are low that the quality is. I have had beautiful clothes made for me in China, Vietnam, and Thailand. Also, the costs of operating a factory in China don’t even begin compare to the cost of running a bridal boutique in the States.

Update on my experience with topbridaldresses. I ordered a veil and headpiece from them 2 months ago (bel aire copy) and they took my order and money just fine, but recently emailed me to say that the veil is done but they cant locate the same tiara. they sent me pictures of replacement tiara’s, all of which were poor quality and nothing like the one I ordered. I’ll say that they tried to find a replacement but the end I requested a full refund and 3 days later I got the full refund. I was very dissapointed that they have the veil and headpiece on the website, but cant produce it when ordered.

Has anyone ordered any of the Alfred Angelo bridesmaid dresses from topbridaldresses?

Or what about houseofbrides….anyone ordered from there before?

I’d check out Milly Bridal if you want a replica made. My dress came from there and it’s gorgeous. I chose a dress from their line, but most girls get replicas made of a dress they love and I have yet to see anyone that isn’t pleased. Springa, their customer service rep is nice and quick to reply to e-mails.

Be very careful when ordering a replica online. I learned the hard way. I got a replica from Gioavonni’s Bridal Boutique and the thing came out horribly. I had a friend work on it, but I still can’t use it. I spent $300 on an ugly relica and now I am spending another $200 for another dress. If you go the online route, please check the BBB report for that business and do a web search on the business for a history of complaints. If I had thought to do that, I would have learned that Gioavonni’s has a F rating with the BBB and would have never ordered from them.

I have 2 weddings coming up…my son’s and my own. I ordered a dress to wear to my son’s wedding as a “test run” for topbridaldresses quality. The dress has similar ruching and pleating as the dress I would like for my own wedding in December. I had a horrible previous experience with a China based seller on Ebay. If my mother’s dress from topbridaldresses turns out good, then I’ll go with them for my own wedding dress also….I’ll let you know how it turns out.

I second checking the BBB reports and definetly do a lot of googling to see if there are complaints on other websites and such. Just got to be really smart.

Update on my earlier post – I got my dress for my son’s wedding from topbridal.com today. It arrived in less than 30 days. For some reason the earlier post was dated 12/31/09…I actually posted that on 7/29/09. It arrived on 8/25/09. Well, IT IS FANTASTIC!! There are a few minor differences, the front pleating isn’t as much as the original and the gathering is on the opposite side than the original. I ordered Bella Formals BM1205, but it actually resembles a halter version of Maggie Sottero’s Coco…It is so good. That is the wedding dress I was going to have made… so I am VERY happy. Just an FYI – It is true to their measurements. I ordered a 12 and it fits me perfectly. Be sure you get the lace up back…it is much more forgiving than a zipper. Also, there is 1″ extra fabric in the seams to alter larger if it’s too tight.

I would not recommend Topbridaldress to anyone. We ordered a wedding dress supplying full and detailed measurements (and photographs for later problems). It came back totally wrong sized. It was agreed to return it, so we did. The second dress came and was only mariginally better. It too has had to be returned but has sat in clearance (Shanghai) for at least two weeks now.
Communicating with Topbridaldress has been a nightmare – they have been courteous but do not seem to easily understand English (they are Chinese). We have only had email contact. There is no real address on their website just a false Zip Code and a California reference. The telephone number provided rings in Wisconsin but is never answered (except by an answering service. The Skype number is the same.
The latest email from them has suggested that to fix the problems, they credit us with $25 and send a couple of metres of material to sort it ourselves! Considering every problem has been theirs and we have had to pay high charges for returns already, someone somewhere has to joking. Perhaps a general piece of good internet buying advice would be to try and make contact by phone first or ensure the number is valid and there is a valid postal address.
We are now in a panic situation trying to find an Eternity 8606 dress (tall version) for her wedding in early January and pay all over again.

I love the dresses from them !
