I am a Jets fan, and my fiance is a Patriots fan. I've been a fan of the Jets since I was a kid, but he didn't even start watching football until after college (and likes to TiVo it - how lame), so I keep telling him he should change allegiances.
I don't think DH would have dated me (much less married me) if I was a Raider fan. Luckily we're a Chargers household! : )
Well, we live in Columbus, Ohio and FI grew up in Michigan. Which means my whole family roots for OSU and FI roots for Michigan.
Here in Michigan there is, of course, a huge rivalry between University of Michigan and Michigan State University. Jim is a big UofM fan. I really don't care one way or the other, but I used to work for MSU, so I do have a bit of loyalty to them.
Friends of our are on opposite sides. She likes MSU and he likes UofM. I joked with them about having a mixed marriage, and asked how that was working for them. They laughed and said it makes like more interesting. Jim is adamant, however, that we will NOT have a mixed marriage! haha!
No rivalry here, die hard Husker fans both of us. I think its a rule that once you have lived in Nebraska you have to be a Husker fan, LOL. GO BIG RED!
oh for sure! i'm a die hard packers fan, my babe, sadly, a life long bears fan. i can get unladylike and he can quickly forget his usually gentlemanly ways.
We both grew up in Indiana, so we both are diehard Indianapolis Colts fans. I don't think I'd be able to stomach it if he was a Patriots fan (no offense NE fans, but I'm sure you feel the same way about the Colts...lol)
@Whimsical.Sprite: We pretty much feel the same way about the Patriots too! (Chargers)
Well, I am a Husker fan, and I've actually been fairly successful in converting him because his team was an every-once-in-a-great-while rival: Penn State. His mom is an alum from there. However, I think even with the Huskers joining the Big Ten next year, I will still have a good shot at keeping him in the light. :) He also was torn when we played his alma mater: South Dakota State, but that one is justified in my book.
As far as the NFL goes, I am a Pats fan, and I THINK he likes the Vikings because it's close, but since I'm not even sure if that is his team, its obviously not an issue in our home. :)
Well I'm a die hard Indianapolis Colts fan while DH loves the Atlanta Falcons but they really aren't rivals.
DH, his sister and I all went/go to Georgia Tech and my MIL went to Georgia. We all enjoy giving her a hard time over that rivalry.
Not football, but baseball! I'm a Phillies fan while he's a Red Sox fan. We usually don't get in each others' way unless they're playing each other! But...I think I'm slowly turning him into a Phillies fan too...I had him cheering for them in the playoffs this year!
@Whimsical.Sprite: Yes, we do feel the same way about the Colts
FI and I both grew up in NE so we are Pats fans through and through. Also, since I was born in LA and that's where my Dad lives, we also root for the Saints (when they aren't playing the Pats!). As far as college go, it's just not very big up here in New England. My Dad would watch the games, but there are no teams that we are die hard about.
@tksjewelry: Haha, I live in Nebraska & married a Husker fan...so as he says, 'Now that you said 'I DO', you have now vowed that you are a true Husker fan'. GO BIG RED!! But I am a USC fan at heart, but will cheer on the Huskers!
Not in college ball (his father was the only one to go to a football school, which we both went to as well) but professional is another story. My dad and brother are Vikings fans, while FH and my mom's family are Packers fans. FH still hasn't told my dad- he wants to wait as long as possible.
He also doesn't love the Yankees which my dad is a HUGE fan of
he's an eagles fan and i'm a cowboys fan - things could get ugly sometimes haha
but, with how the cowboys have been playing this year so far, there havent been any issues ha
but we're both phillies fans :)
@Vegan! I'm sorry!!! That's horrible! You will love this then. My bf and I are MAJOR Skins fans. We actually meet on the Washington Redskins webpage 3 yrs ago. Can you believe it's been that long since #21 passed away! :( Luckly My dad and brother like the Skins too, my mom could care less but she tollerates it. My boyfriends sister and her hubby are huge Giants fans. His mom just follows anything he likes.
BF grew up less than 5 miles from the Giants training camp in Albany, NY and went all the time over there to torment them! LOL We are going to have a few Skins elements in the wedding esp. since it's a bond (besides God) that binds us together and it's how we met. Hopeing to get one of the players to come since I know his wife.
GO SKINS!!!!!!!!!!!
Ok ladies if you want to go w/other teams I got you beat!! My dad and I are HUGE I mean HUGE Yankees fans...guess whom I'm dating...A HUGE RED SUCKS (my nickname for Boston Red Soxs) fan!!!! LOL So the summer time as the BF likes to say is "the time where we don't get along and the Fall/Winter we do b/c of the Skins bringing us back together." It's so true we get ugly when it comes to the Yankees vs. Red Sucks. What's upsetting is we've been to both stadiums together and I have yet to see my beloved Yankees beat them in person! :(
He got me back into Basketball by likeing the Boston Celtics. I'm a HUGE Caps fan but can't get him into Hockey.
I am a die hard Colts fan. Seriously my daughter's name is Peyton (not because of Peyton Manning lol) but it's a running joke in my family that when I get pregnant again I will name the baby Elliot (boy or girl) and nickname them Eli so I can have a Peyton and an Eli SILLY haha!!
Anyways hubby is a die hard Broncos fan even though they have been playing sooooo terrible lately hahahaha
DH is a Jets/Giants fan.
I am a diehard Pats fan.
Luckily we're civil because NY/Boston sports rivalries can get ugly lol
@allisonc yes you are so true...I edited my post. Go back and read! I totally feel the pain w/you!!! And it's worse since you live in Boston. I love that city though along w/NYC!
PS...how can you be a Pats fan dating a Jets fan. Thought that was a horrible death worse than fate rivarly too. A coworker told me today that he wouldn't date one b/c he's a HUGE Pats fan.
I love the caps to they are like the only good team in D.C. I'm trying to get SO to go to a game but his being brushing me off. He likes the caps and the wizards. I'm a big Oregon Ducks fan but that's only because I love ducks. Doesn't hurt that their currently number 1 right now!! Lucky for me my SO sisters are all skins fan including one's FI. His older sister husband is a Tampa Bay Bucks fan they live in tampa poor him.
My hubby and I went to rival schools, FSU and UF. We always cheer against the others team, it's kind of fun to have the rivalry! We're both huge football fans, but we're not going to let it effect our life or marraige.
No football rivalry, but we do have a baseball one. I'm a Red Sox fan, and he's a Yankees fan! He's from Alabama, but he lived in NYC for 5 years. I keep telling him that 5 years is nothing, and he should switch from the dark side.
huge.
i'm a huge alabama fan.
he's a huge auburn fan.
it is the primary source of arguments and lasts all year round.
it is currently football season. UA is the defending national champ with 13 nat'l championships. AU has a chip on it's shoulder (no "real" national championships) and is currently undefeated.
you do the math.
Yeah. My DH, his brother-in-law, and his father are Hokie fans since both DH and his brother-in-law went to Virginia Tech. His sister and I went to JMU and are Dukes fans. Needless to say, there was an uproar when JMU beat Tech!
Both of my parents were in the Navy and I have a cousin that went to the Naval Academy. My fiance on the other hand went to West Point, so they have a huge rivalry at Army/Navy time. In fact the first time he came home with me for Christmas, he wore his "Beat Navy" shirt. Bold move, especially since Army had just lost the Army/Navy game a few weeks before :)

Well thankfully my SO and I have the same team and so do my dad and I Redskins baby!!! However my sister and mom are both Dallas fans go figure our arch rival! Does anyone else have family or SO/FI/DH who root for different football teams?
