we will probably have cigars for the male guests (m loves cigars) and i have a collection of wine corks from bottles in our relationship.. they will either be used as holders for table cards or to hold e-pix around the sign in table.
One of the funniest things is our menu. We're both Italian and we both have secret family recipes for lasagna. So, our menus are listed as the lasagnas being in a Throwdown style a la Bobby Flay. It's pretty funny.
We are thinking of getting coasters printed with "CHEERS!" in English, Irish and Slovak (our heritages).
I've posted about this previously, but this will be on the front of our invitations. It's a valentine that I gave to FI when I was five years old. Inside will say "She still loves him, he's still her boyfriend, and they are getting married." (or something along those lines LOL)
My mother spent a LOT of time making special wedding cookies--an old recipe from my father's mother who had passed away. We put them on all the tables with dessert (cake).
I feel weird adding this because I'm kind of on here as a vendor... but it was such a sweet thing that my mom did... and everyone loved them.
Congratulations!
@ honeybunn, that is such a sweet idea. How fun that you guys have known eachother that long and you kept the keepsake!
@ Alicia Fun!! I wish I had some family recipes!
@ Jellybean: I'm sure they'll love it! Awesome!
@honeybun - That may be the cutest thing I have ever seen.
We are still working on working some personal touches into the wedding, but we know for sure that our cake topper will be really personal - we're planning on having an elephant and a bear (me as the elephant and him as the bear). It's pretty random, but elephants are my favorite animals and have a really funny memory of him imitating a bear when I took him to the zoo for his birthday one year - it's just something that's stuck with us for years and we still joke about!
We're also going to be incorporating music that means a lot to us into the ceremony rather than using the traditional music.
Im not sure if this is very personal but for the favours boxes for guests i hand made them all (not quite finished yet) i got little noodle boxes from a discount store and filled them with lollies we loved as kids like gummy bears, sour worms, candy bracelets, conversation hearts, ghost drops, lolly pops etc. then i wrapped ribbon around in our wedding colors (black and champagne) and pinned little metal tags to the noodle box handles that said thankyou. I think they are really cute and and also inexpensive. They have taken a bit of time to make but i think they look amazing and are really funny and sweet.
@wedding710: Well luckily his mom is the one that kept it all these years. She pulled that thing out when we "re-met" about 6 years ago, and needless to say, we were both floored. I wouldn't even have believed it was from me if my name hadn't been scribbled on the back! LOL
One of our foremost goals with our wedding is to ensure that it's "us." We want it to be representative of who we are and what we believe in.
To that end, we are both foodies and I'm planning to have a bit of a food theme around all that we do: e-pics shot at a farmer's market; instead of table numbers we will have recipes that have been significant in our relations (e.g. instead of having a table #8, we will have "Pasta Primavera" the table card will list the recipe and also explain why it's significant to us); in addition to our cake buffet (no wedding cake), we'll also have cheese trays, as The Guy always orders cheese instead of dessert; our favours will be my mum's homemade raspberry jam with a sticker on top that says "Spread the love."
Those are just a few of the things I can think of off the top of my head.
We're doing a lot of pug-related things, like our table numbers, had them on our save-the-dates, and our photo request cards. And cake toppers... if I can get that solved.
Some examples... our pug wedding illustration for table numbers, our photo request cards, buttons for my bouquet handle, our save the dates
I drew our save the dates and since we're serving pie at the reception in lieu of cake (displayed on cake stands borrowed from family members), I'm hoping we can use my mom's apple crisp recipe (soooooo good) instead of the bakery's recipe. Oh, and the small town I'm from has a brewery and a winery, so for bridesmaid gifts I'm going to include some local beer or wine, according to each bridesmaid's tastes. ^_^
@kjpugs - AWWW so much pug love!!
Our reception room has two beautiful fireplaces, and the venue coordinator suggested bringing framed pictures to decorate them - so on our wedding website, we're asking all guests to share a favorite wedding picture with us, which I'll frame and put on the fireplace. After the wedding, they can take their framed photo home. We're having a smaller wedding, only about 60 people, so it's not like we're going to have a ton of very random photos - I counted, and I expect to get about 15 total. Very excited! Especially for the older photos, like our grandparents.
OMG all that Pug stuff is so dang cute!!!
@honeybun - hilarious! Love that you're incorporating that!
We love to travel, so instead of numbers for our tables at the reception, we're naming each table by places we've traveled to and on each table we will have a framed picture of us in that location with the name of the location on the frame. I've also heard of other people doing things like movie titles, song titles, etc.
@kjpugs: OK, those save the date shirts on your pugs are seriously the cutest thing EVER!!!!!!!! I may have to steal that idea for my babies
Hah, love all the pug stuff!!!
@Honeybun, your mother in law in awesome!!!! How great that she saved that; what a fabulous mother's intuition!
Love all the ideas of local beer, lasagna being served, and location of places you guys travelled to!
We're huge nerds, so I agreed to let DF name our reception tables after things from Star Wars. My only stipulation is that the head table has to be the Death Star. lol
@honeybun - I absolutely love that! Our invitations will have stick figures ... and I'm actually hoping for them to look 5-year-oldish if that makes sense!
I'm trying to add several personal touches, but one of my favorites is seven. FI's answer to everything is seven. Everyone knows that seven is his favorite number (he was a math major). All the table numbers will be multiples of seven. Our table will of course be table number 7.
FH is half Japanese and we made a Senbazuru when we first started dating together that we are going to display at the reception. We also have chicken with udon on the menu which is mom is going to freak over! His other half is Irish and I love Ireland so our toasting flutes are Irish crystal with the Claddagh etched in them. I'm also have a degree in Marine Sciences and our wedding is taking place at the beach with marine related decor.

My wedding is still months away, but I've been busy the last couple months trying to find ways to add personal touches to the big day. These are all ideas I "stole" from beehive and other sites
* Guests signing bench for our future garden together, signature drink that we're going to call MEESH (the last 2 letters of each of our last names), birthstones around the bridal bouquets, flip flips for guests, and maybe a beer tasting station since we love beer tastings.)
What are you guys doing? I'd LOVE LOVE LOVE more ideas!!
