Does anyone know of any good spot to honeymoon within the states? FH and I are trying to keep it local for our honeymoon, and we will just go to an island on our one year anniversary. I was thinking Florida but thats too common. Any suggestions?
I loved Bar Harbor, Maine. Freeport or Old Orchard Beach would be another place I would consider too.
@MapleBecky: Okay thanks! I live in Connecticut so, that's not far from me at all. Its actually driving distance. :)
It's about 4-5 hrs from here, and we stayed two nights which was perfect. You could even start there and then go down to Old Orchard for a few nights from there.
Hilton Head is popular if you want a beach vacay, my bestie and Dad think its so beautiful.Since you live in Conn the plane ride should not bee too expensive. Hope you find a great spot.
We're not planning on taking one. I'll hopefully be just finished school and have no idea what my employment situation will be. I think we're just going to take a few days away and go camping or something.
Possibly for our anniversary, though, we're hoping to go to the pacific northwest.
From Connecticut it's easy to get to Cape Cod or any of the islands up there Nantucket, Martha's Vineyard, & Block Island. All are beautiful and very relaxing but probably pricey :) I'm originally from Connecticut and going home to visit next week :)
Block Island, RI
Newport Beach, RI
Cape Cod
Martha's Vineyard
Delaware Beaches (Rehoboth, Dewey, Bethany)
You could do a Bed and Breakfast in Vermont, NH or Maine
Hilton Head South Carolina, its actually a small island off the coast. Thats the one my girlfriend goes too!
I`ve been to South Padre Island in Texas - it was really nice.
If you want to go to Florida and stay somewhere a little quieter, try St. Petersburg Beach. You get the west coat sunsets and white sand, and it's not as crazy as Miami or Fort Lauderdale. If you want to go out, you can always drive in to Tampa and go to Ybor City.
Lots of places easy to get to!
Cape Cod
Martha's Vineyard
Plymouth, MA
Weirs Beach, NH
White Mountains, NH
York, Maine
Virginia Mountains are GORGEOUS!!!
Delaware beaches are amazing as well
Newport, RI
Me and my fiance are doing DISNEY WORLD!
I think we are going here: http://www.concordscolonialinn.com/.
I can't wait for honeymoon time! :)
Sedona Arizona (my favorite)
Moab Utah
Yellowstone
Bar Harbor
Savanna
Charleston
Personally I think NYC is very romantic (at least to us) so I would love to spend a good week there with my honey.
Washington DC because there is so much to see and do there and Old Town Alexandria, VA because it's got so much character and is romantic.
I've only been from the canadian side, but there's the Thousand Islands in Lake Ontario.
CA has lots of options. We live in Northern CA and are doing Disneyland and then San Diego.
Tahoe would be nice. I live 30 minutes from Napa. WAY overrated.
I know you said FL is too common but I was looking to do mine in FL and Key West
just looks like a whole other world. We ended up deciding on a cruise but even the Gulf side of FL is lovely and different...
Oh and Siesta Key FL is the #1 beach in the US!

Besides beaches... NYC, Niagra Falls, Baltimore MD, Washington DC
@Kamazing: My fiance are going to Hilton Head Island in South Carolina and then doing day trips to Charleston, SC and Savannah, GA. I wanted a quite beach vacation but then also some stuff to do in the city. If you want to stay somewhat close to CT, Cape May is really nice. It is a nice quiet, romantic beach town!
Some other options:
- Pretty much any beach town in FL like you mentioned ( I love Fort Lauderdale)
- One of my friends went to Disney for their honeymoon and they loved it! After all the stress of wedding planning, it was really fun for them to have fun and act like kids again :)
- A cheaper option if you like the mountains - the poconos. Would be pretty close to you and you can rent a nice cabin with a hot tub - have some pretty affordable options as well as some cool adventure parks up there if you are into that kinda stuff.
- Further away - San Diego
Good luck - there are tons of places to go that would be awesome!
@MDbride2011: someone else mentioned Hilton Head in this post..Im going to look into that. Thank you =)
@HappilyEverAfter54: wow those pics are breathtaking! Looks so relaxing! Maybe Florida wont be so bad after all. LOL
@Kamazing: A couple friends of mine got married in the Florida keys and said it was the most amazing place
We're visiting two of our favorite B&B's. We'll be in Vermont for two nights, then Maine for two nights (just outside of Portland). It's only a few hours' drive but it feels a million miles away. Can't wait!
We went to the Rocky Mountain National Park. Rented a BEAUTIFUL house overlooking Estes Park, complete with gourmet kitchen and giant hot tub. It was breathtakingly beautiful and just so relaxing!
I think there are plenty of great spots in the U.S. to go on your honeymoon -depending on what weather, activities, and location you want to go to. My cousin and husband went to Maine for their HM and loved it - but they went in the fall which was some of the nice foliage and all. I see your wedding is in June. What do you want to do on your HM? What kind of scenery, weather, all that? And how far do you want to travel? If you start answering some of those questions, I think you'll find plenty of great ideas!
If you're going for low key pick a place within driving distance. FI and I have some of our best memories from road trips. You profile says CT. What about Mystic? or going up into Vermont? You could even head out to Long Island's East End? Or the Poconos?
Oh I forgot here. A lot of people come here honeymooning... Hershey PA or Poconos PA
http://www.thehotelhershey.com/ and Hershey Park is lots of fun =)

@crayfish: that sounds awesome and like something my FI would LOVE! how did you go about renting a house?---thanks!
We are going to Quebec City and maybe Montreal for a mini-moon after our wedding in December.
In April, we are heading to Florida to visit my parents and either go on a cruise or drive to Miami and Key West.
We went to Las Vegas and had a blast (and we don't drink or gamble much). It was so much fun seeing the shows or just hanging out by the pool. If we had stayed another day or 2, we would have taken a bus tour out to the Grand Canyon.
We're heading to Portland, Oregon. I wanted something with city and restaurant stuff and close to nature so we can hike and be out of the city (we live in NYC). This way we are close to beautiful (though not tropical) beaches, great mountain/national park stuff, amazing food and wine scene, can go on vinyard tours if we want or just ride bikes and eat til we drop. Plus, I hate sweating, so somewhere too warm was out anyways :)
We got married in CT as well, and our honeymoon requirement was someplace driveable that neither of us had been before, so we spent a week in Portland ME! It was so fantastic. Laid back, beautiful, amazing food... would go back in a second.
sedona, az; san diego; charleston! those are my top 3 places in the u.s.!
