We had a two-tiered card box and I just glued it shut!

ETA- to open it I cut a hole in the bottom but ours was a sturdy cardboard and not full on wood or anything.

I would put it together… tape/glue it until it’s unable to be opened, and THEN decorate it. Although, you’d have to be okay with either cutting or ruining it to get it open.. but at least nobody could get into it during your wedding.

I made mine out of two cardboard boxes that I sealed up, so the only way to get the cards was to rip the entire thing open.  You could also try getting a large ballot box with a lock and decorating that.

We had all the cards removed and put in the town car 5 minutes before people sat down for lunch!

@daniellemc:   In addition to the above suggestions I wonder if you could ask a reliable family member or friend to keep an eye on the box to be sure no one makes off with it or tries to tamper with it during the reception?   Or perhaps put the box next to the guest book and ask someone to sit with the guest book – and that way you have a card box guard without looking as if you are worried – or perhaps a birdcage type holder right smack out in the middle of everything??  Good luck, and I’m sorry you have to worry about this…..
