not sure if it meets the above criteria, but i think the botancal gardens or the zoo would be different.
considering you haven't told us what city/state, we can't really help you.
Where are you located?
Some cities have gorgeous, older public libraries or train stations that can be rented.
I just saw a wedding in Utah that took place in a garden store (sounds dinky, but it's GORGEOUS). Check it out: http://magnifiquephotography.com/blog/?p=1493
@jeannie @ small chic: I love that wedding location and she looked stunning!
I wish I could be more specific! I'm in the midwest... I'm kind of just looking for ideas in general. I'm willing to travel, though, so it doesn't necessarily have to be close to me. A garden store could be cool! I'm going to check out that link!
What about an art museum or any museum in general? Or an old refurbished movie theatre? Or an aquarium?
Maybe look into local museums? They can be really interesting and classy!
A museum would be cool! I looked into a couple museums near me, but they were both super expensive to rent for an event... Maybe there are some galleries that would be less expensive, though?
@missmidwestbee: I'm in the midwest to. Illinois to be specific. I am actually getting married on treasure island beach in FL but then having my reception at home. I am having mine in a pub/restuarant. It has some awesome vintage deco but still looks clean and new if that makes sense. It has wood floors really neat cealing fans it's a really fun but classy looking place. Maybe look into something like that? It actually ended up being very cost effective we only paid $175 down to rent out the place and our food which consists of Chicken Alfredo, BBQ Pork Chops, Alpine Chicken, Baked potato, Garlic Mashed Potatoe, Green Bean Casserole, Salad, and Breadsticks is only 18.99 per person. Which is a steal!
@MarryMeTiffany: That sounds awesome! I LOVE that kind of decor and atmosphere! I'll have to scout out some of the pubs/restaurants!

I'm trying to come up with good reception (and possibly ceremony) location ideas for a smallish to medium wedding. I've been thinking about different reception locations, but nothing really strikes me as my "dream" wedding spot. I'd love a location that is offbeat, unique, but still classy, big enough for a little dancing, a good atmosphere for a jazz combo, good for a late evening/night setting, and possibly with a vintage-y feel. Any cool ideas?
