What about a local community center. Or I've known some fire halls to be rented out for events.
My MIL rented out the shelter at a local park for our rehearsal dinner. There was a $125 fee to hold it and make sure the place was cleaned up and I think $100 of it was refunded after everything was clean! Maybe you have places like that there?
definitely check local Knights of Columbus or Firehouse halls - they're very inexpensive and a great option!
the corbett community center is $50 per day. there are tons of places you could use, i looked them up for my rehersal dinner! I'll look through some of my old notes and find my other options, i had a list of a ton of places in portland under $100. Also you could rent out the movie theatre at edgefield for $300 food and beverage minimum.
Oooh, these are good ideas! My friend at work also suggested I try other city-owned properties to see what I can find. Thanks for your help!
Check your local park districts. They usually have pretty basic event spaces that can be rented out affordably for private functions. Then bring in some cheap and delicious catering or self-cater.

My FI and I are desperately trying to make good on the fact that all of our families will be in town for our wedding and so we are trying to offer a family bbq before and a brunch after. The only problem we are having is finding a location! We had a great idea to rent a house for my family to stay at and then have the events at the house, but we are having the worst time finding a house that allows a lot of people and is close to everything. We want to avoid restaurants to keep things casual and to keep costs down. Does anyone have any suggestions for alternate locations? It will be May in Portland, so it could still be very rainy and cold so most outdoor locations are out.
