I would really like to lose weight for my wedding 7/19/14. I can diet, and lose a few pounds, then I lose motivation and simply maintain. The chances I’m going to be on a diet for the next 11 months is pretty much non existant. I feel like if I wait and something happens (like stress from the wedding and everyday life) I will miss the boat. Anyone have any suggestions? I am thinking maybe trying to do mini diets and then maintain? Like three weeks of dieting two of simply maintaining…has anyone lost weight like that?

I am not planning on losing any weight. I will be hitting the gym up to tone the arms and I fully plan on getting into some leg workouts in hopes of getting some bulk because I have to do a decent amount of altering to make the dress fit tighter.
I was talking to a lady who lost about 40lbs and she said she cut out all bread, potatoes, no red meat, no pop (just water), and no coffee (instead green tea). That was what she started with and she dropped about 10lbs then she stopped losing weight so she started incline walking at the gym to the point where if you try to talk to someone you will be out of breath. Now she is running and one meal is always just a salad with a protein (chicken or fish usually).
If I were you I would start with the no breads, cereal, muffins, pasta, rice for two weeks and see how it goes then add in no pop and see how much you lose. If you do have carbs do like brown rice for one meal and make sure you measure out the 1/2 cup or whatever you eat.
The other suggestion is write everything you eat down, right down to measuring how much ketchup you might put on your food. You will be so surprised to see what your food log looks like after even just a few days. And use smaller plates, it makes you feel like you have more food than you do.
Sorry this got a bit long!

I’m trying to lose weight ! The wedding is in 10 months, but i’m trying to lose the majority of it in 6 months (just so that my dress can be properly fitted in time, and don’t have to stress to much about it the last 4 months, PLUS if I don’t reach my goal, well I stil have 4 months (: )
I started about 2 weeks ago, my goal was to lose 40 lbs, and I already lost over 5! so 35 left..
Cutting out pop was the first thing I did (which was actually more like a month and a half ago), which was almost cold turkey. The only time I drank it was if I took a SIP of FI’s drink and I did that maybe 2 times a week. Water is the only things that can really quench my thirst now, which is good. I was also on a website a while back, it was tips to lose weight from the guy from biggest loser, and he said never drink your calories, so I even stopped drinking juice and milk (except for cereal)
I also been excercising, not like crazy though, I’m going to start a real routine once school starts and I have axcess to the school gym. Right now I just go on hour long walks (my city is like hill-central so that definately helps) about 3-4 times a week, and do exercising at home for maybe a half hour.
I do like you idea though, I don’t think I could do it, once I get motivated I need to stay motivated. A 2 week slow down period would probably turn into 2 months haha . Keep us posted on how it goes and good luck! (:

@kl1987: I am! But it’s not specifically for the wedding, I just want to get back into shape and feel better in general. I’ve lost 20 pounds so far and would like to see another 10 gone before the wedding. Actually, I’d like to see 10 pounds gone before the honeymoon. At this point I’m pretty happy with how I look in clothes, but could drop another few for the bikini…

I carry my weight well but at the start of this year I was 164 and now I’m 152, I would like to be 145 by November. That’s when I’m ordering my dress. I go to gold’s gym 2-3 days a week. I eat healthy but I do have a sweet-tooth.

I’m mostly just trying not to gain any weight. I definitely will focus on upper body, as I am wearing a strapless… and obviously everywhere else, but I feel like the corset just does such a good job of hiding things, but with an exposed upper body, there’s no faking/hiding anything.
@kl1987: How much are you trying to lose? I think slow and steady is the best approach, rather than yo-yoing. It really depends on what your lifestyle is like now, and how much “room” there is for adjustments. You could just try focusing on one healthy habit at a time (eg for 3 weeks, drink more water, next 3 weeks cut out soda, next 3 week incorporate some physical activity). Basically look at all of your unhealthy habits that you have now, try to address them one at a time, and do it until it’s routine. Sometimes doing too much all at once becomes overwhelming, and ultimately if it’s not something you’re going to stick with, what’s the point?

I would like to lose about 20 lbs by the wedding. I’m having trouble lately. I lose 2 or 3 then gain it back! School starts tomorrow (I’m a teacher) this should help me keep from eating snacks during the day.
I lost about 70lbs. 4 years ago on Nutri System (have kept all but 8 lbs of it off) and thought about going on that again but with the wedding I really don’t want to spend the money.

@BooBooBee: That would happen to me. I eould gain then lose then gain again. I found out I was gainging muscle. Then next thing I know I’ve lost 12 lbs.
