One place I love and have visited (as a visitor to see where the author lived mind you, and not a wedding) is the Hemingway House in Key West.
Since I am possibly gonna do a destination myself,. this place is one of the places I'll have my eye on. Check it out!
I am planning a KW wedding...I will be down there next month to check out venues. There are some beautiful beach and pier ceremony locations.
I am also planning a KW wedding for June or July of 2011. We may be staying at the Hyatt Key West or the Pier House Resort...
We are planning a KW wedding for Dec 4th 2010. We are going there this weekend to look at venues. We have found that there are very few places (maybe 5) that will be able to hold 150+ people. I am ok with this because i am terrible at making decisions! I would like to to hear what you other KW brides are doing as far as bands/DJs, photographers, florists etc.
We went to Key West as part of our honeymoon =)
I would have loved to get married at the Hemingway house if we had got married there...here's a pic of me posing there, lol...
Just got back from Key West/Key Largo - and it is beautiful. I loved Key West and the way you could just walk everywhere. There is tons of stuff to do for your guests and yourselves, and it feels like a true destination! Prices were my main concern down there - trying to stick to a tight budget! Good luck, it is beautiful! I suggest the Southernmost Resorts on the water and the restaurant is awesome!!
Our wedding was at the Hyatt Key West. Can't begin to express how great it was!
I went to a wedding at the Hyatt Key West two years ago and loooooved it. Unfortunately it got too windy for the reception to be outside, but the ceremony was and it was beautiful. The reception was in the ballroom and still gorgeous.
We strongly considered a DW after that, but because R's parents own a nursing home that we both work at and because our grandparents have health issues, it's just not possible.
I'm getting married in Key West on June 4, 2011! We are getting married on Smather's Beach booked our reception on a 65' Catamaran. So far these are the only details I have, besides the our hotel choice, which is the Crown Plaza La Concha, Everyone has been great to deal with. My only complaint is that they are definitely slower paced down there and there is no rush to respond to emails or phone calls. I guess that's part of island living though :)
Just wanted to chime in and offer any and all helping regarding the Keys. I'm a native! Born and raised there for 20 years (moved away 5 years ago) but my family is still there as we own a restaurant in Marathon. If you have any questions or want a local's opinion/help, by all means, PM me or post here. I LOVE sharing about my hometown and its roots. :)
@MadiLove918 - Thank you for offering advice! I do have one question for you. Do you know if there are any school bus rentals available there? We are having a hard time trying to find affordable transportation to take our guests to the ceremony & reception. We looked into the Conch Train but they want $550 for the first hour and $225 each additional hour. I just can't bring myself to spend that much for one hour! Any advice would be great! Thanks!

FI and I live in Orlando and are planning a wedding in MI (where we're both from) but have recently been seriously considering the idea of doing a small elopement instead w/just our parents, siblings and maybe a handful of friends.
Our first thought was Vegas, but then realized it would be cheaper and easier for everyone all around (ourselves included) to look into FL or MI locations instead. So... Key West... anyone planning on getting married/eloping in Key West, know someone who did, etc? Any suggestions/advice?
