I saw that they did this on Say Yes To the Dress once and it worked out fine.
I'd be leary of it. At least try on something with the same overall shape to make sure it works for you.
I agree with SanDiegoAli--at least try on something in a similar silhouette. I am really considering opening a bridal shop that carries tons of larger samples--those that will fit average size women and plus sizes. No one should have to hold up a $$$$ dress and decide whether or not to buy it!
Thanks ladies! It makes me uncomfortable too, but it is so pretty!!!
Any other thoughts?
If you really love it, I'd ask to see if they could order another sample for you to try on that's closer to your size. They'll probably charge you a fee, but I think it would totally be worth the extra piece of mind.

Hi ladies,
I have a quick question--did any of you order dresses that you just held up to yourself during your dress hunt? I've done some dress shopping, and while I was able to try on samples for most of the dresses I liked, the one that I'm most interested in was much too small for me to even squeeze into. I looked at another bridal shop, and their sample was the same size. So I've never been able to actually try it on, only look at it held up to me.
Have any of you actually ordered dresses that you could only hold up? How did it work out?
The plus is that, if I buy the dress, they will make a muslin for me and then we can alter the muslin, so I will get to try on something before the dress is cut/made. But I'm still nervous.
Thanks!
