Ladies I admire you so much!! I would love to do a marathon someday! I’m training for my first race ever, it’s a 10k.. My only goal was to be able to finish it, but it’s in a month and a half, and I already can. Guess I could work on my times..

Maybe next year I’ll do a half marathon..

Way to go, @bellykitty! When is the big race? GOOD LUCK!

I just ran my first marathon last fall – the NYC marathon. It was by far one of the most amazing experiences of my life. I was registered for 2008, but some major health issues prevented me from preventing the training. When I came back in 2009, I went in just wanting to finish and have a good experience, and I was really nervous about completing it after all my health stuff. It ended up going GREAT and I’m so grateful I went through with it!

My best advice to you as a first timer is to PACE YOURSELF. It takes a lot of mental toughness to go slow in the beginning with all of the adrenaline, but I was thanking myself during the last 5-10 miles. I ended up negative splitting (ran the second half faster than the first) and my fastest mile was mile 26! I strided it out with a smile on my face – and having that experience was totally worth the “slower” time. (Besides, most people are so impressed you finished a marathon, they don’t even bother to ask how long it look you!)

I completed my first marathon last year.  It was such an amazing experience!  I do have to say that it IS important to pace yourself because I was TOTALLY on a natural high the first 8 miles, running WAY too fast, LOL.  I was really regretting it about mile 22.  But there is nothing like finishing a marathon.  I can’t wait for my next one, I’ll be running a half in September and a full marathon in October, November, December, February, and March!
