@dianna: have you tried the benachi house in new orleans? it is really gorgeous and they decorate it for Christmas... how far are you willing to travel from Slidell? I have amassed a lengthy list of places (a lot in St. Franscisville)...

Do you have a budget that you'd like to stay in for your venue etc?  The Louisiana Castle in Franklinton is also a great choice.

I choice The Bluffs Golf Course in St. Francisville because it was very cost effective and our OOT guests could stay on site.

@crebre Thanks so much for all of your suggestions! i think we may have decided on the Gulfport Yacht Club because it is beautiful and very reasonable! Congrats to you and i hope you have a beautiful wedding at the Bluffs!

I'm so excited to find weddingbee!  It's not been easy to find information on venues for our destination wedding that will take place in either NOLA or on the MS Gulf Coast.  We are making a trip out in about a week and a half to explore and choose our location for both the ceremony and reception.  We're working with a pretty modest budget for our group of 80 guests, and looking for an intimate, unique location where we can start with mid-morning cocktails and very light hors d'oeurvres, then hold the ceremony outside, under an old tree or near water, immediately followed by a lunch reception.  I'm really looking forward to checking into your suggestions here, and keeping tabs on any new ideas!

    Dianna,

I got married in Metairie (right outside of New Orleans). Our venue was under $30 pp (including apps, gumbo, jambalaya, open bar (liquor, daiquiris, etc.), DJ, cake at Haydel's AND grat)! It's called Jefferson Orleans North and the people there were great. There were a couple of hiccups (time management issues with their coordinator), but she probably has experience under her belt now. I'd recommend them..PM me if you have questions. :)
