I don’t know about anyone else, but I am not really blessed when it comes to the creative department. The last DIY project I did sucessfully was in the 2nd grade. And that included gluing cotton balls onto a piece of paper with a sheep on it. But, in order to save some money, I’m willing to swallow my pride, and prepare myself for some disasters, and try some DIY projects. I have 16 months left to go and I’m really ready to start doing some wedding stuff.
I just don’t know how to start. I don’t want to bite off more than I can chew from the get go and end up completely discouraged.
What sort of things are you/did you start out with? Where did you find your how to’s? And, as always, tips would be very appreciated.

I’m DIY’ing much of my wedding. I found a great tutorial for napkin rings http://www.merrimentdesign.com/recycled-fabric-napkin-rings-from-saran-wrap-tubes.php. It seems fairly simple and cost efficient.
A lot of the stuff I found just by googling. I knew I wanted to DIY my invitations, and I got an idea in mind, googled it, and that website came up. It’s how I found the napkin rings.
What kinds of things are you thinking you want to DIY? It may help to start with that and then go from there…

Oh… and of course Martha Stewart is a great resource for DIY… she’ll usually link you to other people and articles, etc.

Me!!! I’m not very creative, and ADD to boot- I can’t sit still for the life of me! And yet somehow, I’ve made it through DIY invitations, DIY bouquets, and working on the DIY decorations.
I think it just has to do with what inspires you. For me, I found these ideas online and once I saw them I just KNEW that was what I wanted for my wedding, so I made it happen. There are a lot of DIY tutorials online though, basically if you have an idea you’re not sure how to pull off, google it and I guarantee there’s a tutorial out there, on this site or elsewhere.

I didn’t think I was very creative UNTIL I started all the wedding stuff!
Bouquets and ALL flowers… bouts
ALL paper products like:
Song Request Cards
Seating Chart ( also out of vinyl records)
Table Numbers (also of vinyl records)
I made bowls/basket like things out of records for our guestbook pages
And I’m sure some other things but I’m at a loss now lol

I’m not even sure where to begin. I had a few things in my wedding folder, but during a recent computer crash, my folder was deleted. The only thing I vividly remember was a card box…
I wouldn’t mind trying to DIY invitations since I’m not planning on having that many people. So I suppose I’d probably start out with centerpieces and then try my hand at some invitations?

I am not crafty at all but I am pretty creative and my Maid/Matron of Honor is totally crafty. We are DIY our table numbers, escort cards, STD’s Invitations, programs, favor boxes and bouquets/boutinears. Oh and also planning to make some cake pops for our candy buffet.
I will say that DIY is a great way to personalize your wedding but it really isn’t less expensive! I’ve spent an arm and two legs at Michaels already!
