It’s partly money, space and time.  Even though we specifically bought a house with a larger yard, we’ve been told it’s still not big enough for the dog we would like.  Maybe when we get our finances in order and get our house in order we will go on that adventure.

I got my first pet with I moved in with my husband. I grew up without a pet too, my dad is allergic. I’ve always loved dogs though, I dog sat neighbors and friend’s dogs whenever I could. My husband has always had a dog in his life, and you can tell how much he loves his dog, I knew he’d easily choose the pup over me when we first started dating!

It’s definetly something new and different, but I wouldn’t have it any other way.

I have guinea pigs (2) and a few fish in a 5 gallon tank. We really wish we could have a dog or a cat, but pets aren’t allowed in our apartment (we’re also in NYC) but even if we could, money would be tight right now.

I would love to get a dog, but right now we’re in an apartment and I don’t want that to limit the type of dog we get. We also might wait until after we have children to get a pet.

Our family dog was in her twilight years as Fiance and I were getting settled. She passed away this november at the age of 12. I really just need sometime, she was my first dog and I need to grieve. I do have a cat actually, but he lives with my aunt and uncle because he likes to be outside and we live in a condo so not ideal for him.

None of your choices applies to us…Darling Husband is horribly allergic to cats and dogs, AND our current building doesn’t allow pets, plus he doesn’t really want one anyway. I, on  the other hand, would love love love to get a puppy. But alas, it’s not to be!

I picked that I’m scared but really it’s that I don’t like animals. I love zoos and aquariums and calendars with puppies on them, but at the end of the day I really don’t like to touch animals.

@bRooklynRocks:I am not into animals. I think dogs are cute but not cute enough for me to feed, walk and pick up their poop daily. No thanks. If I want to do all of that I will have a baby:0)

Right now I live in a place that doesn’t allow animals.  But even if it did, I don’t want that responsibility at the moment.  In the future I will, but I don’t want to have to plan my schedule around an animal right now.

I want a dog so badly. Some people get baby fever I have puppy fever. Unfortionately if you moved into my building after 2008 you can not have a pet. This breaks my heart because there is a family that lives downstairs who is never home and their dog sits there all day and cries. I hear this every time I go into the stairwell and it breaks my heart.

When my then-boyfriend/now-husband and I bought our house, we thought seriously about getting a dog.  We ultimately feel that you should get a dog before you have kids, so they can get used to each from baby-hood or wait until your kids are old enough to want a pet and share in the responsibilit, as we believe that having a pet is a great way to teach responsibility, compassion, care giving, etc.  We decided to wait, as we don’t have much of a yard and would have to hire a dog walker, pay for care over weekends we travel, etc.  It was the right decision for us, and right now I am pretty thrilled that we don’t have the added mess, expense, or crae requirements of a pet.

My option isn’t on the poll, but we don’t have any pets.  We love dogs, but decided we don’t want to get one anymore after we each had to put our dogs down (they were both very sick). The heartbreak was too much and we don’t really want to put ourselves through it again.
